hes right:) ...i think it stands for ........

FF is front engine front wheel drive, FR is front engine rear wheel drive....the mr2 is mid engine rear wheel drive, hence the name...MR mid engine rear wheel drive

I "THINK" that front wheel drive cars aren't as prone to spinning out at the track in turns and what not...plus the power is transfered to the front wheels directly to the engine...They have more understeer...and vibrates through the sterring wheel since the engine and power are at the front...Front engined and rear wheel drive vehicles of course over steer a lot more...yet torque transfer helps them out in accelerating situations..I personally prefer FR cars (i.e. 240's) for there fun factor...but FF cars arent slouches either

FWD cars eat up the front tires alot quicker. RWD has much more even tire wear and can eliminate understeer to an extent. Thats why most race cars (F1, Nascar :P, GT racing, etc...) are rear wheel drive.

Not to mention that a FR car, given enough power can be steered with the throttle, a little oversteer is the best way to exit a turn, plus FR cars tend to have better weight distribution. FF cars have become very competitive though, just look at the Type-R, it will put a lot of rwd cars to shame with its handling. Personally, FR is the way to go, that's why i drive a 240 after all.

another thing to consider is when you are accelerating the weight of the car is forced more on the rear of the car so with a rwd car there will be more weight over the driving tires when accelerating

when i was watching autox today the ff cars had better times along with the awd because of the spin out. I was wondering, is there a kind of racing like auto x but you go faster. I went and rode in someones car today and watched and it didnt look very much fun because they wernt going very fast

I think it's called Solo I, you race on road courses. BTW, autox is more fun when you do it, not when you watch someone else. Just because you're going slow doesn't mean it's not challenging.

FR is definatly the way to go.. Tho i think you may be seeing FF cars with better times because (imo) they are easier to drive (requre less braking/accelerating skill)

EDIT: not that i prefer the FF, just that is a simpler platform and the majority of drivers dont have the skill required to drive an FR car at its limit.

it also depends on how well the course was layed out, what kind of cars are there, etc..... I went to watch some solo II and had a blast, there was so many porches vettes, miatas, vipers, 240s, and more porches it was like a auto show. It was also fun to watch a FWD VW Scirocco beat ever car there on a completely stock motor. Although i think the enourmos slicks had something to do with it ;)
