im looking into engine options for my s13. i think a v8 would be prety wild, and id like to find out more about these engines.

first, did they come with a manual trans? where can i find aftermarket parts for these engines? if you were going to pick a year and type of this engine to build for max NA hp, which would it be and why?

Not only is there no factory manual trans option for the VH/VK, but AFAIK, they don't mate directly up to ANY factory Nissan manual transmission.

You've got your work cut out for you. Might I recommend an LS1?

Search for some posts from 450zxtt he put a VH engine in his 300zx and twin turboed it. He also made an adapter for the 5-speed transmission.

I think a VQ35 would be a great enigne for you to look into... TONS of aftermarket, should be fairly light (i bet they dont weigh much more than the KA24), available 6 speed..

VQ35 is the 350z engine right? sourcing one of those would be prety pricy, then the cost of fabrication on top of that would be even more.

Theyre really not that expensive... VQ is in about everything that has a nissan V6 made after like 1998 or so. 350Z, G35, maxima, altima, FX35, and so on. Theres a few exceptions so dont quote me.. I think itd be a cheaper alternative than the VH45... I hear you can sometimes find them for around 3 grand.... Im not sure though..

VH45s can be had pretty cheap on eBay, usually less than $1k. The main problem is mating them to a 5spd.

I imagine that you'd want to use a VQ from a RWD platform, which would likely limit you to the pricier Z-spec VQs.

Do an LS1 or an LT1, or maybe a 1UZ.

There are people making this happen, as I recall Slim (450zxtt) has done it and John Dixon (in England) is working on it as well.

Neither is using the VH in a Q, but that doesn't surprise me.

Don't give up too easy.

still way cheaper than building a VH45 (or ANY engine for that matter) for "max NA hp"

i always thought she was really cute when she was younger (not that she's that old now!)... but she strikes me as a girl that could either grow up to be pretty dang good (remember natalie portman in the professional??), or she might turn into some scary looking devil doll
