Ok, ive installed my cd player and 4 speakers before but other than that, im sort of a newbie at this stuff. So not suprisingly I have a few questions :)

1. How do you get to the wires, i'll be needing to get to the ignition wire (for engine cut-off if alarm goes off), hazard lights (blink when alarm goes off), brake wire (so you can program your alarm), and power source.

2. Will it be hard to identify these wires? Will I open up my dash or whatever it may be and a bunch of wires fall out? hopefully not... :-/

3. How do I connect the alarm to the power source, ignition wire, lights, power door locks, and brake wire? I guess you can say, where would I be connecting them?

4. Where does the siren and main unit go?

Jus kidding man , I'm not a d I ( K. First get a #2 phillips screwdriver and remove the under dash panel.. Usually held together by 4-5 screw ..Be careful prying this off , you don't want to break any clips (a panel popper would be recommended , but you'll probably use a flathead)

This will reveal the ignition harness .. From here you'll need a multimeter of some sort to test which wire is which. Usually, the yellow wire is your ignition and the orange is your starter for most cases .. Don't go by this though.. Search the forum for the wiring diagram for your car and go by that.. It is still best though to have a DMM..

To connect wires you will need a wire stripper and some connectors(if you're new to the scenario) or soldering tool to get the most secure connection.. Just pull back the insulation on the wire and tie in with your new alarm wire..

There are many tutorials on doing this , I'm sure someone will follow up right behind me and post some links....

Yeah , t-taps aren't really great to use.. However, all of the big box retailers like best buy , circuit city , etc. use them for their installations.. I wouldn't go with the shrink wrap method though.. Not good under weather conditions , if it gets too humid stuff might start peeling .. Jus wouldn't go with it!!

If I were you , don't use t-taps or heat shrink .. Peel off about an inch of insulation in the center of the wire( just the insulation , don't cut the wire!!) you will reveal the wire , now form an o with the wire by sticking a pic or something straight ( NO, not that thing silly :p) into it andswirling it around in a circle.. Now stick your alarm wire in the middle of that wrap it around the top or bottom half of the wire that formed the circle... Press everything together to form a decently straight line...

Now all you have to do is either solder the wire(which u probably won't be doing) or you should get good quality black electrical tape (1710 tartan or higher- a 3m brand or better) and wrap it around your exposed connection..You are in biz!!

Im going by the car alarm installation wiring diagram and theres 2 white wires coming out of the main unit that are suppose to go to hazard lights, there labeled "Hazard Lights" and next to each one it has (O/P +5 A).

Well took the dash apart and its not 3-5 screws, its about 15 including the plastic cover underneath the steering wheel. I had to take it off to get to the ignition wires because there were in a tube up until where you put the key. Theres 2 red wires, ones red with white stripe other is red with blue stripe both coming out of ignition, where you put the key. Is this where you connect your alarm?? Way too many wires and not enough explanation on this freakin diagram, grrrrr.

Man oh man .. . No need to take all that out. .. There are usually 4-5 maybe 6 screws on the 240 under dash panel.. That is all you had to take apart... Your ignition harness is wrapped there... You went all the way to the ignition itself to find the harness when it isn't necessary..

You have to make all of your alarm connections rright under the sterring wheel area ( sort of like 1 1/2 feet directly below your instrument cluster(speedometer ,etc.) You have to strip the electrical tape that the wires are wrapped in .. You should find everything right under the dash not next to the ignition cylinder and what not.. DOH!! You are going to be hiding your alarm brain in the area right under the dash.. As well as the shock sensor(if you have one) .. Anything you need you let me know or someone else will probably jump on this.. Ciao

ahhh i finally figured out what the square thing in my wiring diagram is, its the coil that came with the alarm system. i was staring at it for atleast 30min then it dawned on me, such an idiot... well that explains alot. I got to somehow figure out how this is going to wire to my ignition, i got to find the ignition coil and ignition switch. Theres 2 wires that come out from where you put the key, i thinking maybe one is coil and one is switch?? the wires were wrapped in a plastic tubing not tape thats why i had to take the plastic cover underneath the steering wheel to get to it. But basically, everything us underneath where you said? even the light wires? By the way, I still have no clue what those wires labeled CH 1, 2, 3, and 4 or the positive and negative door switch's are. Thanks ALOT for your help!

I also just noticed that the harness hanging down (the one NOT in the tubing) connects behind the ignition while those 2 red ones come from the tube and go into the side of it. Im guessing the harness is the one i need, back to the wiring diagram bleh.

That just made it worse, 5 wires connecting to the back of the ignition and no idea which is which and ive been staring at this wiring diagram for my car for over 2 hours now and I see no similarities between the two, i tried matching up the colors and its just not happening. Its all *****ing BS if you ask me, they could make it a little more user friendly, jesus christ im about to smash the alarm and shoot the person who wrote the instructions

SMASH , SHOOT.. YES, YES .. Haha . Where did you get your wiring diagram?? Directed makes the easiest diagram to understand.. Ie. Parking lights (+) - red/green - located in driver kick panel.. They give this type of info and tell the easiest location to locate...Bro , the ignition harness is like 5 wires wrapped in black tape.. They are most likely 14-16g wire... You can feel and tell they are thicker than the majority of wires under your dash.. The wiring diagram would say ignition wire - yellow , starter wire - orange ,, etc.

U can duu eeeeeet!!

Another thing, make sure you get a DMM (Digital multi meter) .. You can get these for as low as $10 >> sears ,home depot ,etc.

This you will definitely need when trying to locate door lock , trunk , etc.. Because these are small gauge wire like 20-22g and the diagram will state it is a purple/black wire.. But guess what , oh no! , there are 4 of those wires in this crop.. Hmmm , now what? Get the dmm , if you don't know how to use it, we are here to help

FSM "Field Service Manual" is a bunch of bull, I think i'll try Directed like you said. Yeah your right theres about 5 wires, I have no idea which is which because there all basically connected in the same location and I didn't see it anywhere on the diagram.I never used a multi meter before without help, so I might try that but I dont know what i'll be looking for. Im not hooking up the trunk by the way, just my power door locks and car alarm. But seriously though, thats not ht eonly problem im having, according to each wire in the diagram it all eventually branch's off to like 10 other wires, its like.... where the hell do I connect the alarm? Theres so many different "Light" wires its not even funny, does all the wires on the alarm connect in one area like at the back of the fuse box? I dont think all the wires I need are there anyway.
