Oklay I got a 92 240sx se convertible up and running now. Which I do have a few questions to ask about it. Now when I bought the car it had no oil in it so I put in some left over 5w-20 to get it running and you can hear a little tapping with the lifters. I haven't pulled it apart and check out stuff yet but I am assuming since 240sx calls for 5w-30 that may get rid of the tapping some.

But anyways onto the next question. I found a 94-96 240sx standards which I can pull the 5speed transmission, and clutch system and what I would like to know that should all be the same to plug right into a 92 right? I know the 94 and up has the upgraded computer but not sure if that will cause any conflicts or not.

Now the speedometer in my car is pegged out half the time and bounces too while drving it and when car is off it stays in pegged position. I would like to preserve the mileage so is it possible just to replace the speedometer in the gage cluster?

Thanks for the help

There is a sticky for the trans swap at the top of this forum, its pretty straight forward. If you take the time to disassemble the gauge cluster you should be able to swap out just the gauge. The ka24de doesn't have lifters, your probably hearing the injectors, there known to be noisy.

Valve tick is pretty normal.

Most would probably run 10w-30 in a KA.

Assume you mean a '95-'96 S14 model ('94 models were only S13 Verts). And any 5 speed transmission will work in any 240sx from '89-'98. The S14 will have a hole drilled at the top of the bellhousing for CAS, but can be left open or plugged when used in a S13.

Speedo may just be a bad speed sensor, you would need to find a S13 MT speed sensor to use on the 5speed transmission, that may fix your speedo problem. Otherwise you should just be able to swap the speedo gauge if you need, just much easiers to swap the whole cluster.

Thanks for the reply. I've done research on swapping out the gages and preserving the odometer which it really doesn't mean much but I still like to preserve the actual miles. But again thank you for the info I will get it swapped over and hope it works.

To moso: I am away that the lifters are actually buckets. I've already torn down a ka24de so just a common word I used for the cup style cam followers / buckets/ or what ever you wish to call them. They seem to have 5000 names for them lol. But to be honest It could be a little timing chain slap too but I"ll get to that soon as I start working on it more. Just hard to find the time working 7 days a week lol.
