I had to register again, using a different nick. Everytime I logged in, and tried to post, it would error me out.

Thanks for all the info. I think I will go ahead and upgrade the tcu, might as well. Regarding the AZ q's, it's nice to see some fellow owners. Back in 99, I owned a champegene 91 Q. I used to street race it all the time around scottsdale. Up/down scottsdale road/hayden/pima (prior to freeway) All the way down tempe, all over the valley really. I have raced at least 10 E36 m3s, and I could run neck to neck with them after 75 each time (if they were stock) Nobody I told that to believed me, until they came along in the car, and witnessed the even themself. I raced countless other wanna be fast cars (mustang/various imports) I would say I won the race 90% of the time, Viva le Q! Thanks for the mechanic recommendations, I basically I want a mechanic I can tell to try to make the engine as powerfull as the day it rolled of the assembly line, and he can take it from there. I have a few other questions. First, a light comes on intermittently on my dash, I looked it up in the owners manual, and it said it was an "emission malfunction", anybody have any idea what this may be? Also, when I purchased the car, the previous owner said it was suffering the dead sunroof, all to common on the qs. Well just like my j30, it seems ot work intermittently, what I am wondering is, it won't auto open. I remember in my 91, if I held it back it would make a click and auto open, the owners manual also eludes to this, but no dice on mine. I can't get it to "click" any ideas? I was interested in changing the gears out, is there ANY place to get them cheaper then stillen (2,000) I was reading some prior posts regarding a shop called B.A.D selling them for 900, any truth to this? I am also about to have all the fluids changed for the first time since I have owned this vehicle. I would like to go synthetic, and I drive at WOT frequently, can someone give me a recommendation on the best fluids to use (oil/transmission/dif/etc)

Thanks in advance

Yes BAD does redo Q diffs for teh approximate price u mentioned.

They used to be part of our former NICO store, which had great deals on real interesting stuff like ECU, TCU, Diffs for Q's and other Nissan Infiniti's.But in those days (3 years ago) NICO didnt have nearly as many members as it does now, so the NICO store kinda went away due to lack of traffic.

I think if it came back it would do much better now.

BAD was about to redo my rear diff in my Q before I totaled it just recently so they are still around on and off.

Their number is here somewhere on the board, execute a search or if I find it, soon I will edit it into this reply.

They are an outfit that is mainly done by part timers, who do it out of enthusiasm, hence the good price, but you will also have very long lead times for that same reason. If the NICO store came back I am sure they would go back to a more speedy and active status but they do still exist.

Palmer, I totally agree with you. Now that Qs have gone down in price, and are more obtainable, it seems logical that people who actually know what the vehicle is capable of, may be starting to purchase them. I really want to modify mine, but I have no idea where to get parts from. I-m-racing.com has the ecu listed, but no tcu. They also have the still gears, which for 2000 (compaed to bads 900, seems totally ridiculous) I was under the intention the ecu/tcu were TWO seperate chips. However, I was reading on the forum, it's just one chip, controlling two functions?? Still a little confused on this. I want to upgrade my ecu/tcu at the same time. Obviously jimwolftechnoligies sells both the ecu/tcu, but don't they require a core exchange. I can't really have my vehicle brainless for weeks waiting on a part. Here is another one. Why is it when the Q runs out of gas, it won't start until it has at least 5 + gallons in it? I had this happen in my 91, back in the day. Then yesterday I sputtere dinto the gas station, put one gallon in it, and it wouldnt start back up. I had to put 7 total gallons of gas in it, before it would turn over. I could hear the fuel pump working, but I guess it wasn't? Is this a design flaw, or do I need a new fuel pump, possibly? From now on, I am not letting it go below 1/4 tank, don't want to strain the pump or clog the injectors.

It IS two seperate chips.

The TCU is a little metal box in the drivers side footwell behind a kickpanel right in front of door speaker. The ECU is in the same location on the passenger side. Two seperate units.I still think the aftermarket TCU is not such a big benefit in a 94.

Also I dont know if he does 94's but we have a member named aaacomp who used to sell chip upgrades, he was also doing it mainly for fun and basically selling things at cost (He has his own programming business). You may want to email him.

About teh running out of gas part I dunno, It does sound weird but then I have never run out of gas in the Q either and if I did I would have gassed the car up all the way.

I've gone pretty low on gas in my Q, but never actually stalled it (driving cross country, finding "towns" that didn't have gas stations). That you would need any amount beyond what can get picked by the pump sounds weird to me too. No reason for it that I can think of. If you stall it though, it'll probably take a bit of cranking before you get enough gas to the injectors. I don't know that the 3-seconds of pumping when you put the key in would be enough.

Yes the fuel rails would be empty and need to be filled all the way from the pump and thru the lines.I can easily imagine a delay there also.

Hi AZ - What was your previous screenname?

You won't need the TCU in your 94. Save your cash for an ECU from Jim Wolf, or...... I have access to a low-mileage rearend from a 300ZX n/a which has the 4.08 rear gears. Fred (palmerwmd) was going to buy it until he decided to take up "figure skating" in his Q (j/k Fred). If you're interrested, the price will be the same as I offered Fred. E-me off-board for more info.

What part of the valley are you in?

Azhitman, I'm in the north phoenix, scottsdale area. How about yourself? I would be interested in that rear diff, I'll send you an email. Thanks for clearing up the ecu/tcu. One more question, on that subject. I really don't mind spending a few hundred extra bucks on the tcu, as long as it serves SOME benefit. It was my understanding, the JWT ecu will reprogram the rev limiter to 7,500 and shift around 7,300? If I don't get the tcu, I can't rev it past 7,000 (manual) 6.800 or so (auto) what I'm wondering is, wouldn't it be worth it to get the tcu, so I could take advantage of the extra rpms? Anyone want to take a shot at that light coming on my dashboard? it's the one right of the brake, it has a little logo and has check written in. It will come on, stay on for a little while, turn back off, and repeat that sequence, throughout the day.

Hmmm - As regards the check engine light you can run the codes (procedure is found in the service manual) and have someone here interpret... Or you can drop up to $100 for the dealer to run a quick Consult diagnostic and tell you the same thing.

I like Scottsdale Infiniti, BTW.
