when i did my timing chain, i used some ****ty liquid gasket to seal the pan and the front cover. i used nissan silicone for the cam sprocket cover, thermostat and water pump. i have leaks from the pan and the front cover and i was wondering if it is possible to remove the front cover without removing the cam sprocket cover.

also, i stripped two or three of my valve cover bolt holes (i always overtighten, seriously, its like a disease :-)). what can i do?

If you have the oil pan off, the front cover can be removed much easier than with the pan on. The front cover is sandwiched between the head and the oil pan. And I've never had a problem with any silicone gasket makers. Did you allow it to set properly before running the motor, and also, did you make the beads correctly?

As far as the valve cover threads, maybe try a heli-coil thread repair kit. They are easily found at auto repair shops, though metric sizes are bit more difficult to find.

it was both my fault and the autozone guy's fault for the bad gasket. he gave me the gasket, and i never checked the max. temperature for it. either way, the nissan gasket is much better.
