Alright guys, my father has offered me his newer F-150 as sort of an early college graduation present and he said as soon as I could sell the pathy I could have it. So without further or due, I am giving this forum first bids on it. 1996 4x4 SE 155,000 miles 2 owners New2" lift shocks, new clutch, new brake system, new battery, new starter, new exhaust, New audio system by Sony and MA Audio, K&N cold air intake, Viper anti-theft alarm system.Runs excellent. Everything in the car works excellent including the electric mirrors, heated leather seats, rear window defroster, cruise control. Heat and Air conditioning work great.

Make me an offer and ill try to work with you.

Same here, I'll never own another one unless it's either given to me or it's a Ford GT.

It is just my parents church truck, my dad put black 20s on it some performance mods and a dope sound system with a ballin touch screen. I do a ton of interstate driving now and i cant even cruise at 70mph without getting 4mpg. Plus im living in the heart of a city and the manual transmission is totally pissin me off. Also towing a 2ton landscaping trailer with the 3.3L isn't poppin'. I might try to talk my parents into letting me keep it as well as getting the f150, but driveway space is limited.. Then again a few extra bucks in the bank doesn't hurt. I might actually need the money from the pathfinder to pay for all the s*** that goes bad on the ford... hmmm

If possible, keep the Pathy. It's an awesome toy.

The real cost isn't absorbing the sale price of the Pathy, it's the insurance you'll have to pay on two vehicles instead of one. If you can do that, do it.

And as for driveway space... what, can't park it on the street?

My insurance company offers offroad truck insurance, which lets you activate insurance on your truck for 1 weekend a month. Street parking doesn't fly in my hood, nor is it safe for any car.

I am just lookin at this as an investment opportunity, the F150 is worth 11,000 and the pathy is worth 5k. so if a trade was available it would be smarter to accept the ford.

I'm not sure what everyone is scoffing at...I would take the F-150 (free or otherwise) over the PF any day.

Even if the Ford is as "bad" as everyone is making it out to be, there are at least 50-60 companies (or more) willing to sell you pieces/parts to make it better, faster, stronger for a lot less then the $6M needed to do the same on the (any) PF (R50).

For towing, the V8 is what you want. You're still going to get about 15mpg avg, but at least the V8 won't have to strain to get you moving.

Sure, the F-150 might be a bit bland on the inside, but their are endless companies to help you change that and it won't break the bank.

The good news, headers, full exhaust and chip, suspension upgrades are all easy to find and they are a dime a dozen so part a plenty in the "you pull-it" yards. Plus, the local auto store will more than likely stock parts for the Ford, unlike the Pathfinder.

I say do it.

The biggest overall thing is the fact that the F150 is worth $11,000 and the pathy isn't worth $11,000.

Dude a vehicle is not an investment. Well it is to the degree that it's a declining investment. If you're doing this based soley on monetary value then you're doing it for the wrong reason. Get rid of it if either you like it better then the pathy or your needs have changed.

k03, yeah its alot easier to mod the ford and all, but then again, any person can go find parts that are available everywhere. To mod your pathy you have to search or make custom.

More $ yes. But uniqueness is what comes into play for me. not anyone can just pop in an auto parts store and find a s***load of aftermarket stuff.

i like the uniqueness of a modded pathy, so im just giving you that point of view.

Miamiheat, I hear what you're saying, and I'll agree, having a mod'd R50 is being unique, however, I'll disagree with uniqueness when it comes to actually modding the R50 chassis.

It is hard to be unique when there is only a handfull or even sometimes 1 part available for a paticular application. With limited availability comes higher prices. The R50 chassis is not the chassis to choose to express your individuality, but it all depends on how you look at it.

I think going custom on certain things is fun and shows a person's ability to think outside the norm, but after a while, having to go custom on just about about everything or spend months researching parts availibility will/can really wear on you, especially when owners of other, similar vehicles have a plethora of parts in different styles that are much more readily accessible.

Sure, I feel "unique" having an R50 chassis vehicle because they aren't everywhere, but seeing what is out there or what isn't out there in the way of aftermarket add-ons is somewhat depressing and a turn off. The likely hood of me getting to explore the limited aftermarket is also limited, unless stuff just starts to fail and I'm "forced" to look at non-OEM replacements.

I may not be a hard core enthusiast, but if I was a hard core enthusiast, I probably wouldn't have chosen the Pathfinder in the first place. And that is what I think the problem is with this chassis. It was bought by people who are perfectly content with what the $30-40k got you off the showroom floor.

We oohhh and ahhh at the trick wheels available in Japan or the brush guard in Austrailia, but scoff at what it would take to get them stateside. We scoff at the fact there is only one or two good ways to raise the ride height and scoff even more that we can't get above 3" without spending some serious $$$.

I think it is much easier to be unique in the F-150, just because they are everywhere. And because they are everywhere, you can do just about anything you want to set yours apart from your neighbor's. Granted, I'm against the JCWhitney guide to styling, but with some sensible thought, that dime a dozen F-150 can turn out to be one of a kind just because the variety of the aftermarket available for it.

I think it great for those of us on this board who have taken the plunge to separate themselves from "normal", and I for one am always looking for that special something to add to our Green monster, but it is tough. At this point, WeatherTech all weather mats and that little tree (LTM) you get at the local autostore are the extent of my venture into aftermarket land. Sorry, no tinted tails, chicken wire grills or chrome 20s.

For the OP, I hope he can sell his PF. I'm sure he doesn't want to part with it, but with his current stage in life, the F-150 sounds like the better move. Cars are meant to be used and sold. Aquiring a "free" one isn't a bad deal espeically when you know its history.

Yeah man that's how I am looking at things. One of the first mods I'm doing to the F150 is probably and 8 inch suspension lift, because I can! Some 35" mud grapplers, only then will I be invincible. Granted I'm sure tons of people have already done that, but there's a reason the F150 is most popular truck in the world, and the versatility with it is a reason. Also the 351hp over my pathys 141hp will be a delightful improvement.

After those mods you will have worse mileage than the pathy...

Just FYI.
