That sucks. The M45 sat in the garage for 2 weeks until the snow melted here is Washington. I heard it sucked in the snow so it sat.

I Got a truck for the snow!

I hear you on the lack of traction in the snow. By chancem was it Friday night?

I nearly T-boned someone on Metcalf because I couldn't stop on my crappy RSA's. Just like being on ice skates.

Sorry to hear about that. If it was Friday, you must have gotten it worse down south. We had just a dusting in the Northland.

Who's doing the work? Major Infiniti? Would be interested in hearing how good of a job they do after you get it back.

Good Luck!

Dropped my car off today, 3k in damage and wont get it back until Feb. 9th.

Sympathy?????
Ouch!

Sorry to hear the bad news. You all gotta have snow tires in cold weather ... anything near freezing and the summer tires will get rock hard and slide (even when not in snow). This is the reason why I recommend snow tires in those conditions.

Unfortunately, you found out the hard way ... my sympathies for sure!

You've got my sympathy here. At least you hit a car. Last fall I hit a lousy raccoon on the interstate @ 85mph. Cost me almost $2k to repair front end.

In the winter I'd recommend snow tires also or in my case I drive my '90 Maxima that's still dependable in the bad stuff. I'd rather wreck that if I had a choice. Keep your eyes open for an older reliable vehicle that's cheap just for those occasions. Good luck on the repair!

Call me crazy, but I find it hard to sympathize with you.

Hate to be a party pooper, but I feel that it has to be said... that driving in the winter, especially in the snow, on summer rubber is irresponsible and inexcusable. Just be glad that you ended up being involved in a low speed collision, and without any injuries/fatalities. If there were to be some serious consequences, a good lawyer would have a field day with your case.

Let this be a lesson for anyone out there that is planning on doing the same.

Remember, you, as an owner of a 4000lbs car, are ultimately responsible for the condition of your car, tires included.

This is why we have auto insurance. I'm glad everyone walked away from it!

Tough words, but your point is well-taken.

And it is not just summer tires in winter use ... I would also be concerned with bald tires in warmer climates in an accident. The occasional rain can cause serious braking problems.

Search for the thread here at NICO that links to the video at Tire Rack about what happens in wet weather with tires that are below 4/32" of tread. Scary!

I am sure that your opinion would very quickly change if you were on the receiving end of this; if your car was hit by him, and god forbid, you lost a family member because of it, or you yourself became a cripple. I am just trying to put things into perspective.

Things happen in life due to our actions or inaction. Take a moment and read my signature. Everyone makes mistakes!

FYI - My step-father was hit by a car that had bad brakes in 1988 - he didn't survive. I have no hard feeling towards the driver. This is my perspective.

Life goes on.

Would you feel the same if you have a 6-7 year old son or daughter and he/she got hit by a driver in winter with summer tires and your kid ending up in a wheelchair feed thru a tube for the rest of the life? You would have to see him suffering the rest of the life because somebody wasn't resposible enough to buy a set of appropiate tire.

What I don't get is people buying a 40-50k car and don't buy a set of tire.

Having summer tires on in winter condition as bad as drinking and driving. You are not in controll of your vehicle.

My car stayed in the Garage all winter long, i have the Awd Version with all seasons, and it was total garbage in the snow. You should invest in some winter beater 4x4 truck with some snow tires, like i have

Even without any serious consequences, a good lawyer lurking on this site can have a field day with SammyTheBull because he has given the time and location of the accident and accepted his mistake of driving with summer tires.

Anyway, like several European countries, there should be laws requiring winter tires during winter months. It will definitely prevent lot of accidents. I don't know why tire manufacturers haven't successfully lobbied for such laws. Maybe they got out-lobbied by body shop owners.

SammyTheBull wrote:WOW!! a lot more response than i thought. First of all, i am not looking for persona "poor me" type sympathy. It was more of a "My poor car" thing. Everyone on here is obviously fanatic about the appearance of their rides. I am not an irresponsible person, and i do only drive my car in good weather conditions. It was a decent day with no weather to speak of, I had to work late snow started coming around 8pm, this happened at around 10pm.

I had no intentions on being out at that time, but thats the way it went down. To compare that in the same regard as a drunk driver is asinine.
Intersting view point.

To me it is simple. It is winter no mater if it is 8 pm or 10 pm. It can happen anytime. It is not comming by surprise. If it comes in July yes it would be. In january well not. That's why they call it winter. You don't need snow to have a same problem you had. All you need is cold.Sorry if it sound horrible what I response but it could of been lot worse as others said before.

Or a cheap set of steel wheels with snow tires for the M (assuming that having a second vehicle is not a choice some people can make).

That works wonders on any high-power car ... like our M's ... including the AWD versions!

Asinine or not you can decide.

Here is how I see. You were aware of the snow you knew it could be dangerous because you have summer tires on. You still made up your mind and go for it with the knowledge it could be fatal because you are not in controll of your car. Luckily for you, it only ended up with a minor fender bender you did not kill anyone.

All it takes is call a taxi or somebody to take you home. Rest could of been a 6 o'clock news. "Careless driver killed 2"

Let see the drunk person. After drinking more than ligal limit you think you are good to drive home but you are not you are not in controll of your car. You can kill somebody just like that.

All it takes to call a taxi or somebody to take you home. No I can do it. Rest could of been a 6 o'clock news. " drunk driver killed 2"

What's the different is up to you to decide. In my book both situations equally bad. Both kills.

Don't forget, Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.

Hey guys...lighten up a little on the guy.

I do agree it is a bad idea to drive with summer tires in the middle of winter, but I think the guy will learn from his mistake.
