http://www.freecycle.org -- I saw it on local news, and a friend told me about it. Its a collection of local Yahoo groups where people post and give away/acquire used stuff for free. Keeps things out of the dumpster. Every once in a while you come across real gems. I've gotten computer parts, snow tires, etc all for free!

Its local/regional, so someone posts "OFFER: box of plastic forks and 1GB hard drive -- St Peters MO"

You reply, they decide from the replies who gets to pick it up (generally first come first serve, so I keep Outlook open and get notifications through email). You agree on when and where to get it. You drive out, acquire it. Its yours. There's no such thing as shipping. The person just leaves it on their porch for you.

Today I picked up some ADB keyboards and mice for the 95-cent PowerMac I picked up at a Goodwill Outlet -- EVERYTHING in the store is 95 cents! There's people who sit in the store all day waiting for them to bring things out from the back.

I also got an old Pioneer amp (http://q.spilky.com/pioneeramp.jpg) to use with my new Grado headphones. I needed an FM radio anyway for listening to Laura Ingraham, so it was perfect.

This week I barely missed out on a playstation and games, and two color gameboys.

In the past I got rid of a car cover, new jugs of coolant, and miscellaneous computer doodads.

Okay, so it's "pick-up", ahh I'm a little bit of a freak about people knowing where I live or me going to strange places.

Yeah, the Pioneer is still worth $15-$50 bucks. Nice natural sound too.

As long as you punch the person's address into Mapquest and make sure they dont live near a bunch of crackheads and meth addicts in East St Louis (or whatever Cincy's regional sh!thole is), youre good to go.

That's actually a pretty nice receiver Jesda. But for power outputs like that you should have extremely efficient speakers. Normally I recommend 92+Db sencitivity for car speakers, but for a "low" powered home receiver like that, I would recommend a speaker with an efficiency closer to 100Db .

You truely are an odd-ball Jesda. Normally you buy a stereo receiver to use with speakers, but if you are going to be using it with headphones, buy some headphones that are actually designed to be used with stereo receivers.

I'm not talking about those little things that barely cover your ears. I'm talking about the type of headphone that are about the size of protective ear-muffs. With the nice rubber/foam surround to ccreate a descent seal around your ear to "trap" in the noise. Those things are really awesome.

You need to read up on Grado Labs.

The SR-40 uses the same drivers as the studio series SR-60s, but theyre shipped to china by Grado and placed in a cheaper, more portable headband and casing. Savings of $30 for nearly the same sound quality.

Modern amplifiers tend to neglect headphone outputs, necessitating the use of a special headphone amplifier:

Older receiver-amps and new high-end home theatre systems generally do not need one. There's no need for a closed seal when there's no outside noise in a closed bedroom.
