Am I right? Just paid $756 for front/rear brakes & rotors, bearings etc. Pads are Wagner thermoquiet, can't recall what rotors were put on nothing fancy, not slotted or drilled. Thought the quote was for half that, must have lost something in the translation, so to speak. Was looking at the Brake motive but am going on a little trip this weekend and had to make sure I got those badly warped OEM garbage off my baby.
Any comments, good, bad or ugly are appreciated.
Thanks

its not too bad i guess... i guess most of it is labor? I found a set of these for you that may be around the price that may help you get an average.

At least its not as bad as what the dealer charges for brakes all around.

Let's be clear...they did bearings too? What was included in "etc"?

If they did both front bearings, you got away cheap.

My guess is labor was 40-50 % of that bill. That said, was it an option for you to save on the labor by doing it yourself?

You should be able to look up the part #'s listed on your invoice online to see how the parts pricing compares. I'd be surprised if any of their parts prices were comparable to online, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of their parts prices were a little above MSRP. Some shops "round up" the parts prices so they can look more competitive on labor rates.

One of the big benefits of DIY on some smaller projects isn't just the labor, it's being able to source your own (usually higher quality) parts for less. So, it's a win/win/win.

Whew, you guys made me feel a lot better! Yes, both bearings were done. Labor was $170, which I thought was pretty reasonable. I was just worried about the quality of the brakes/rotors and the total price. Last time I had a brake job done on all 4 wheels was for my 96 Q45a which was over $800 at Infiniti several years ago. Anyway, I couldn't take the warped OEM's anymore and didn't have the extra few days to wait for the Brakemotive's everyone seems to think so highly about here. Doing it myself is never an option. Besides washing/waxing/detailing, about the only thing I can do on a car is change the oil. I can fix your golf swing, teach you how to pitch, but I can't fix a car! Thanks.

Probably an OK price. The dealer wanted that for just my rear brakes + new rotors.

Sounds like for all the work done, you got a fair price, labor may even seem a little low. But as I mentioned, they may be a few $$'s over MSRP on parts. It's just how some shops compete against dealer labor prices.

If you can change your own oil, then you could do pads & rotors, so keep that in mind for next time.

Oh, it's highly doubtful you could "fix" my swing, it's broken just the way I want it :)

I can change my own oil but would not even think about changing my brakes or rotors by myself, I don't see to comparison you make.

just FYI, you'd be looking at about $300 for OEM brake pads plus labor (including machining rotors) for rear OR front wheels, NON-Dealer. So, that really sounds good if you got new rotors too.

it's just an extension of what you can do - for instance you can walk then you can run :) :rotfl

I was trying to imply the "level of complexity" isn't much higher for brakes on an Infiniti than an oil change.

We're not talking about drum brakes or disc brakes that require special tools to turn the pistons back into the caliper. Changing pads & rotors isn't really that difficult and doesn't require any "special tools". There are plenty of DIY's with step-by-step pictures that can help explain the process.

I guess just because we are talking about "brakes" and the issues that would arise if I do that wrong makes me the most nervous.

But if there are no special tools required "maybe" I will at least take a look at a couple of videos when it is time to change mine :ohno: :ohno:

Logan,

I used to feel the same way until I watched a couple of utubes & had someone walk me through it. I literally was just an oil/filter guy before that.

It will thrill you to be able to do it yourself and laugh at what the shops charge for brake work.
