THAT'S MY JAM

I bought it in 1992 at Streetside Records in Fairview Heights IL.

Image

I remember the liner art and even the way the paper smelled. Music was brutally overpriced but you can't beat the experience of going through stuff at the record store, listening to new music while you were there, and cracking open a fresh disc/tape/record.

Once in a while I get the privilege of buying and opening 25 year old LPs that are still sealed. It's like a time machine.

I'm in a nostalgic mood. Deal with it.

Given your impure thoughts of Mandy Moore and Kelly Clarkson, buying an Amy Grant album is not shocking.

My first vinyl album was the Beatles Sgt. Peppers. :dblthumb:

At 12 years old I snuck this bad boy with the Parental Advisory sticker right past the Best Buy clerk
Image
Roughly once a year I seem to exclusively listen to the album for about a week thinking, "man, this was a good cd."

After that week I think, "Goddamn, thats annoying noise" and toss it back in the case.
The album later went 2x platinum.

On the same shopping trip, I also bought:
Image
I sitll listen to that album and even saw them live this past Saturday in Boston.

Combined, both albums cost me an expensive $24. I'm pretty sure I got my listening value.
However, neither album were anything that a 12 year old should have been listening to, as I am pretty sure that the Smash Mouth album taught me to swear.

I hang out at Vintage Vinyl in St Louis since it's open late on weekends. Sometimes they have bands perform in the store.
Image
Problem is, they let the bands set up right in the middle of the jazz section, so I'm tempted to walk all over their equipment to get to Coltrane.

I cant walk out of that store without spending $100-$300, and I don't listen to half of what I buy. It's a bit nutty.

The great thing about albums was all the sleeve art, reading all the lyrics. Lots of cool stuff in there.

I joined Columbia House when I was like 12... Mom was NOT pleased.

My first 3 choices (cassettes) were:

Queen - The Game
Billy Joel - Glass Houses
Beach Boys - Endless Summer

Never bought vinyl. At one point, however, I had over 600 CDs, mostly left behind collections of various flaky roommates & GFs during my college years.

I was in the first grade.

Still fantastic. There are a couple bombs on it (particularly Shameless and When in Rome) but We Didn't Start The Fire, Leningrad, and Downeaster Alexa are all brilliant. And That's Not Her Style, Storm Front, and I Go to Extremes are all pretty epic 80's tastic nonsense.

I think Downeaster Alexa's my favorite from the album. When I was in junior high school a friend of mine challenged me to memorize the lyrics to We Didn't Start the Fire, and my family took a 4 day road trip the next day. I listened to that song SO MANY TIMES on a worn-out Walkman while riding in the car those four days. Never got tired of it. Still haven't gotten tired of it. I also still haven't forgotten the lyrics.

Hey Jesda, FYI, ABC is promoting that your "quarter ton 'o fun" GF (Kelly Clarkson) will be appearing on Dancing with the Retar....er Stars tonight.

I had read somewhere where she's recently lost a lotta weight. Might be worth the pain and character assassination associated with watching that show..?

First cassette I ever bought was Aerosmith's Greatest Hits. This was made before Permanent Vacation came out and their decline into suck.

I bought Toys In The Attic the next week. I think I still have a copy of that on vinyl somewhere...
