Check this commercial out from Thailand. The rear seat reclines! Why couldn't Nissan offer this feature in the States???

Dunno. We have a 2-position reclineable rear seat in our Tucson, and it rocks.

In Asia, these are your normal cars, most people don't drive SUVs and trucks, where as here in USA, we normally drive bigger vehicles and reserve the subcompact cars for commuters. There just isn't a market for a 20K+ subcompact car. I am sure a few would buy them, but not enough to make a sizeable market. I do dig the digital climate control, that would be something I would like to have...

That's exactly right. In many countries the Versa would be considered a full-size car. As such, it makes sense that it would be offered in a much higher trim level. If a Versa was available here with leather seats, digital climate control, and navigation, it would be priced easily in the mid 20s. Be honest, if you were going to spend $25,000 on a car, would you still be looking at the Versa?

I'll be honest... if I was going to pay 20K+ for a car, I'd have bought a Prius...

oh wait, I did spend 20K+ for my V....

let me rephrase... if I had been INTENDING to spend 20K+...

I don't agree the whole deal that people wouldn't pay big dollar for a compact. Just look how many have bought the Mini Cooper. Plus, I know a lot of members in this forum paid just about that much for their Versa. I think the reason Nissan didn't offer these many ammeneties in the V was because it is the first year for this model and didn't want to risk in expensive trims and features. I am almost positive this feature will be available for the 2009 model given the positive responce the Versa has had in North America.

But... if they do offer more amenities for 2009... you guys have to keep me from trading my V in again... seriously... I refuse... ;oP I can't afford it!!

Not me. I've had vehicles with all of those features. While they are nice to have, the biggest luxury of all is having the car paid off. We financed for three years @ 0.7%. Once it's paid for I'm not going to go back into debt just for a new "goodie" on the car.

I would hardly say that the Mini falls into the category of "Look how many". I see maybe two or three a week on the roads in San Diego, and we have some of the highest gas prices in America. So with the exception of the few coopers running around, it still stands that subcompacts are primarily for commuters and younger people that can't quite afford a more expensive car yet. (No offense meant, its just the way it is, look at the demographic thread, its mostly young college students, highschool students and commuters) A middle class family of four isn't going to run out and spend 25K on a Versa when you can get a van or SUV in the same price range that has a lot more cargo space, which those of us with kids know is a neccessity. I would love to have all the gadgets in the pics, and I love my Versa (as evident by my mods), but I sure as h*ll wouldn't pay 25K$ for one. I would have looked at the Prius, or if your willing to take that price jump, move up to a Camry hybrid. I hope that Nissan brings some of these extras to America, some look like they can easily be added to our models, but I am with Matt, no way am I giving up my current model and its loss off the lot for the same car with some new gadgets, thats just throwing away thousands of dollars, and no car payment = I can start a boat payment...only 2 years to go.
