my friend just bought a 1988 rx7 NA and I wondered if any of you has had much experience with these. His car is stock, mine has a few bolt ons, gutted interior and lots a suspension work. Just throwin it out there to see what yall thought.

They weight about the same but I think the RX-7 has about 146 hp or something in that area and with your bolt ons, sounds like you'd win.

But nothing is for sure.

my friend has a n/a 87 FC and mine is stock except exhaust and he always beats me in a 1/4 mile. All he has done is HKS exhaust and he pulls away from the first gear and on.... maybe hes just a better driver than me?

Full bolt ons (except still FI) as well as a severe diet and a few tricks had my S5 N/A FC taking down LT1 cars on the highway and mod motor Pony cars from a light. Don't underestimate the n/a rotary. Stock S4 FC vs you I think it is up to the better driver to win it.

yeah i agree, i am looking forward to a race. It has 185,000 miles with a rebuild at 100,000. So it has 85,000 miles on a rebuilt motor. It is in fair condition. I juat wanted to know what to expect. Thanks for the input

I imagine the 240 getting spanked after 60mph. The fc will top at around ~130. My friends have FCs and their waiting for my car to get out of the body shop so they can have a go at it. Like hungry dogs.lol

The NA S4 FC3S is a pretty quick car. My buddy has a bone stock 1986 FC with 131,000 miles on it. I imagine that if I pulled out my audio stuff and replaced my intake and header with stock units, it would come down to driver skill.

BTW, I LOVE the FC. Everything about that car is sweet. This same friend let me drive it for a week while he was out of town and let me tell you, it's a LOT of fun.

Of course, I don't envy him when he has to repair/replace something Mazda doesn't stock anymore every couple months.

I <3 Nissan.

But it should be a fun race, just be safe.

with my stock 89 coupe(40ish thousand miles rebuild) and fresh clutch, i whooped my friend in his 87-88 rx7(less than 10k rebuild) im sure it had something to do with driver skill as i put quite a few car lengths on him by 60(from a deadstop) but oh well nonetheless. i heart fc's as wel. use to have an 87 turbo 2.

A friend of mine has an S5 'vert, all NA, but it is very fast, he can routinely beat my roommate, who drives a '91 Turbo II.

I realize this doesn't really pertain to what you're asking, but it's still cool.

FC's or any rotaries are pretty fast, they have better top end than the KA as far as I know. plus they can rev to wherever they want. I love rotaries and 240s

i love rotaries 2 but i have spanked a few in my 93 until i hit 4th they pull hard on topend, then i would hit the speed limiter. 1st -3rd though i owned em. In my book nissan will always be #1

yeah, we havent raced yet but from driving it feels about the same. my 240 has way more power down low but his has better top end. I like the FC but I prefer my 240.

why is it that a rotary engine still pulls on top end? More rpm?

Short answer = Yes.

Longer answer = At 6000 RPM, the 13B (the FC3S's NA motor) has two additional ports open up to help boost top end power. At any lower RPM, these stay closed to preserve torque. Think of them as a pre-VTEC variable cam system. True, they have nothing to do with cam lift or duration for obvious reasons, but they serve to improve top end breathability. These are only found in the 13B, not the 13BT, its turbo equivalent.

have you guys ever seen a all motor rotary motor built? now that thing hauls a$$. i can say for sure that a turbo 2 will spank a sr20 s13. even when both is build, the fc will still have the upper hand due to the rotary motor. rotary engine are just bad a$$. my friend was able to run my s4 with only a full exhaust system with a iceman intake and did a 13.8 at palmdale. the car had 188whp and weigh 2800lbs. a car that suppose to do 15 shave off more than a second with minor upgrades.

Japanese freind had an SA22 with a 13B peripheral port (side ports blocked off and two holes cut in the rotor housings for intake) and a 55mm downdraft carb, yikes! Buuuraaap!,,,,,,,,,,,,Buuuraaap!,,,,,,,,,,,,Buuuraaap!,,,,,,,,,,,,Buuuraaap! You could almost see the gas gauge twitch as the motor loped. Just nasty

a friend of mine's rebuliding his Turbo 2 motor right now. Let me tell you....that thing hauled *** when it was running. My next car would definitely be an FC if not a Cefiro A31
