Shimming the wastegate actuator out 2mm for decreased wastegate arm movement and an increase in boost.

Anyone done it? How much does shimming 2mm translate into boost increase wise?

Just throwing out my weekly topic for discussion..... last week it was timing, now it is this.

Talk amongst yourselves......

ok, i understand its like 12psi or something. people on sxoc said to use some thin washers. dont quote me on the boost increment though.

Get a boost gauge. Try it. Let us know! Hehehe. I've got to get my BOV put on this week and then my next install will be some nice ricey autometer boost and AFR gauges in a dual A-pillar pod. I know it's ricey, but I don't wanna mess w/EGT and all I'm worried about is knowing if I'm running lean and a AFR will tell me if I'm doing that or not. After that, S14 turbo and HKS Adjustable actuator. Then the suspension...

How would you go about shimming the wastegate? Taking it apart and such.

external = new manifold doesn't it?

OK, I found a better picture, but I'm still not sure how you pulled it off? Did you weld it onto the stock manifold? And if so, how well is that holding up? I thought welding to cast manifolds was a ***** of a job?:)

Exactly! I welded a gooseneck on the manifold closest to where all 4 runners cross each other and directed the gooseneck to a safe area for the wastegate to hang. Had a support rod welded from the gooseneck to the manifold for added safety and anti-cracking measures and that's it. Everything worked fine and the wastegate performed flawlessly keeping my boost regulated at around 14.7psi because the spring I was using. I was basically able to run everyday without operating the boost controller.

The stock wastegate is attached to the compressor housing by 2 10mm bolts. All you do is run a washer between the actuator and the housing. This will push the actuator back by about 2mm. This will "decrease" the rod length on the trap door, there by opening it less which in turn will increase boost.

I do have a boost gauge and may just shim it out for ****s and giggles this weekend (my weekend is wed and thur) and report back my findings. I am running a boost gauge and right now, it hits about 9.5 but it reads a bit low (not zero'd out anymore).

Oh wow, thats it? Id rather do that than keep using my ghetto MBC.

Plus its even better when I pop my hood and the ricers dont see the MBC :D
