There have been several threads similar to this, but some of them are dated. I want fresh opinions. I need to know what everyone's favorite tires are, especially for track events. I'm gonna see if I can get a tire company to come to the 2010 Nissan Convention and set up but I don't want to ask someone you guys wouldn't use. Who would you want to have if I could arrange it?

KTHXBYE!

Good timing. I'm looking for a set of quiet snow-capable all-seasons for the Caddy.

I really like Michelins. They're quiet and comfortable. A solid tire choice.

I hated my Falken Azenis 615s. They suck balls and are overrated.

What sucked balls about them?

Mine have been pretty f***ing great, and most tire tests I have seen showed them to be faster then most tires in the same category. Cheap too.

I got to drive on a set of Hoosiers the other week. First time on R-comps. I want a set for my car. May not be practical for daily driving though

i paid $150 for all 4.... Hoosier A6's are in high demand, $150 was an amazing deal

p.s. I too HATE azenies... worst performance tires i have ever experienced they heat up too easy, turn gummy and lose traction everywhere.... i wouldn't use them if given them for free

Idk, I daily my car most of the time, and only used them on the track once. They advertise them as being good for the street and wet conditions.

Hardly the case. They wear down fast as a mofo on the street and are HORRIBLE in the rain/wet.

lol, well there is your problem. They don't "suck a**" but they are about the worst choice ever for a long lasting rain tire

I live in AZ. I rains like pretty much never.

I don't like driving in the rain with these tires.

I hyroplaned and almost wrecked my car last week.

It never rains, but you have problems driving in the rain?

I have been driving on 615's for a couple years. Even in fairly heavy rains I have had almost no problems. Even in like inch standing water I had no problems.

How fast were you driving when you were hydroplaining?

45 and switching lanes.

But in the tires defense, they're pretty worn.

yeah... its a little off to put down an ultra high performance summer tire for not giving you good traction in the rain when they were worn out.

But again, we have had some pretty heavy rain in Cali this year... and I have not even once had them lose traction.

I suppose you will take this the wrong way, but could it have anything to do with the fact that you have had your license less then a year, and driving in the rain is always tricky for new drivers, especially when they don't see if often?

Nope, not really, no offense taken either. I've driven in the rain plenty of times and have encountered much heavier stuff than that day. Snow too. That day, it was only drizzling enough to get the ground wet. When it rains hard here, it floods, as there's really no sewer systems. We just have a bunch of washes where the water drains.

I consider my car pretty difficult to drive with it's unique quirks, and especially now with the worn tires. It was almost funny how as I started to switch lanes, I notice I'm becoming perpendicular to the median, lol.

Huge fan of Michelin Ps2s. They've handled the power very well once you get moving, and are great for canyon carving. They also drive great in the rain. Too bad they cost so FREAKING MUCH!

Briefly tried Nitto NTO5's and liked them too but their lack of different tire sizes kind of sucks. Not a fan of Good Years tires at all, especially any of their runcraps.

I've been running with these.

BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW NT

I love em, great handling, low road noise. A+

I've got to put a new set on before Carlisle, I'm either going with the g-force or

Nitto Invo

I heard good things about these too, not sure which one I'm actually going to get.

I'm running Kumho Ectsa AST tires right now and I really have no complaints from them. They are pretty grippy, very low road noise, and excellent rain tires and decent slick weather tires. They handled quite well for conditions (2-4 in of snow and ice in -40 degree weather in a Z32).

I'll most likely be getting either the Nitto tires or the Kumho Ecsta ASTs again

youre f***ing crazy. the 615 is a great tire and michelin BLOWS for performance unless you are spending 200+ a tire for the PS cups

my vote goes to federal or maxxis. best bang for the buck.

I dislike the 615 because the advertise it as a performance tire that is good for the street and wet conditions both of which it sucks at.

Also, I never said anything about performance Michelin tires. I said they are quiet and comfortable. We have them on our Volvo, lol.

It seems you have misinterpreted my previous posts.

I usually run all-seasons. Out of all the tires I've run, I liked the Falken ZE512 the most, performance wise. Excellent performance in all weather conditions (even exemplary in snow), quiet, very predictable give, just a great all-around tire. They lasted about 22k on the Maxima. They made the car marvelously netural and supremely tossable.

I had mixed opinions on the Toyo Proxes4s I ran on the Q, mainly because their wet-weather traction wasn't as good as I'd hoped. Braking traction wasn't bad, but the lateral traction in wet weather led to unpredictable understeer, which was a bit unnerving. Considering my Q's suspension set-up (very oversteer prone) and the fact that the touring all-seasons I ran before the Toyos didn't have the same problem, the Toyo's tendency to understeer was annoying. In the dry, though, they were better, and facilitated the Q's rear-happy handling dynamic to a greater degree. But they still didn't feel as confidence-inspiring as I'd hoped when I bought them. Certainly not as striking as the ZE512s were. All said, I had no intention of buying them again for the Q, and definitely have no intention of ruining the LS's fantastic balance with their sub-par wet traction.

I've been wanting to try some 615's and RS2's but haven't gotten a chance yet. From everything I've read about them they're a "go."

The BFG G-Force KDW's with the flame tread pattern were nice but I think they're a bit pricy for what they are. I've gone through a couple sets each of Federal 595's and Kuhmo Ecsta MX's. I think I like the Federal's a bit better even though they're a little heavier. I guess the sidewall is stiffer but they don't feel as "squirmy." Cheaper too. My only complaint is the Federals seem lose more air compared to MX's over time if the car sits for a while. However, you need to be checking your tires often anyway so I don't worry about it much.

Amazingly enough the General Exclaim UHP's the previous owner had on my 240 aren't half bad for what they are. Of course the grip isn't as good as the previously mentioned tires but they are a different class of tire all together.

I actually had a set a good while ago, and I thought they were a great tire for their purpose.

Now, I am no tire expert... I don't read many tire reviews, and I ignore them all together when I am not personally looking for tires...

But they were reasonably sticky, and gave me as much grip as I cared to ask for in the wet. They also lasted a LONG time. Like too long. I wanted new tires and the damn things were still there. They are an excellent compromise tire IMO giving a pretty solid balance between giving decent grip in hard driving, dealing well with most conditions and not wearing at all.

Q.E.D.

I've got nothing bad to say about 615's (except maybe the 200 treadwear rating, but what do you expect from such a grippy tire ). I ran Falken Ziex on my S13 when it was pulling daily driving duty but switched to Fuzions after a set of Falkens wore out long before they should have.

The Z wears General Exclaims in summer daily trim. They've lasted far longer than their treadwear rating suggest they should. I did replace one after a construction zone induced flat last summer noly to discover the same tire had a bluge in the sidewall. No idea if it was from the construction zone or not. Either way, I'm checking into an alternate daily tire for summer and a set of Bridgestone RE-11s for summer fun. Bridgestone 960's are my choice when the seasons turn though I've heard and read great things about Conti's new all season DWS tire. With all the snow the Blue Ridge mountains have been getting I might just pick up a set for next fall & winter.

I forgot to mention snow tires.

I bought some Hankook iPikes for the Q based partially on budget and partially on their tread pattern (blocky with lots of siping but still v-patterned). They are studdable but I did not stud mine. The snow and wet traction is OUTSTANDING. Just brilliant. With those tires on the Q, with the 4.08 and no TCS, I felt more confident in the snow than I ever have in any other 2wd car...FWD or RWD. The tires handle everything from fresh snow to slush to rain to ice to snow on ice fantastically.
