I'm looking to up the boost on my car and was wondering what everyone's favorite boost controller was...reasons why you purchased and/or features would also prove helpful! thanks in advance!

The apexi avc-r is an excellent choice for boost controller. Good ramp up and stays pretty damn close to the actual boost that it's showing on screen. From what I've seen, it does not spike and is very smooth to boost.

I went with a greddy profec b spec II though. It's got a smoother ramp up but does not hold the boost as accurately as the apexi but like the apexi does not spike and is very smooth to boost.

I have a Turbo Logic MBC. Works just fine for me, and was under 50 bucks. I'm running 11 psi with a stock sidemount.

with 11 psi is there a major performance gain with the stock sidemount? my main mods are 4.4:1 gearing/clutch/flywheel/exhaust at the moment and it's just not cutting it with stock boost...

el negro, didn't you have a vid of your car launching/at the drag?

Yeah, that was me. That was @ 5 psi, and the wrong heat range plugs (top end was worthless), lol. I only ran a 14.5 @ 99.

@ 11 psi, I have noticed a significant gain in performance. It actually puts me a bit back into my seat now, lol. I am not pinging at all (I have a logger for that) and it is 90 degrees temp outside right now.

Also, I see you live in Union City. Did you go to the Freakmont Show in Fremont last weekend? I was there.

i was most definitely at the Freakmont show. I was driving a primered gray hatchback with gold wheels/polished lip (the car is pretty loud). i was parked next to my friends red NSX and a bunch of 240's...

do you have that vid of your car? i'd like to see if i remember seeing you/your car...

I was the very first car on the right as you entered the parking lot. Of course I got there 1.5 hours late, so you were already there, lol.

Is this you?

That's the name of the game. I don't like to be noticed.

I take a crap load of pictures everywhere I go. It's an addiction, lol.

Lol, those runs I was actually running pretty slow. Only 14.9-ish. My Car is pretty quick, but I can't beat an evo. That yellow car was just a Ralliart Lancer (who runs a 15.2) with a body kit. I can beat my buddy matts Cobra though. He only has exhuast and some rear end gears. I take him by a couple car-lengths though. I haven't run at the track since I upped my boost, but I'm expecting around 13.8-ish.

What do you have done to your car so far? BTW, go to Norcaltuners.com. It's a bay area forum, and I'm on there all the time. Good peeps chill there.

No, my buddy Matt's Cobra Isn't supercharged. It's a 96 Cobra. I haven't raced a SC Cobra yet, but I'm sure it'll pull on me.

well, which route should i go? mbc or electronic? is the installation/idea basically the same? fooling the wastegate?

which one would be more practical if i'm looking to boost about 11-12psi until i get a front mount?

I'd just get a MBC. If you can afford the 300-600 dollars for an EBC, then by all means. But I'd rather put that money somewhere where I'll get more for my money. And the installation of an EBC will be a bit more difficult, but not too hard in the end.

I really like piston-type manual boost controllers. Like this one http://us1.webpublications.com...g.jpg.

Piston-type are more durable, accurate, and spike less.

i absolutely hate my Greddy Profec B Spec II. Its such a PITA trying to hold boost right. When it holds solid in a low gear, it will creap in a higher gear. I might switch over to the HKS EVC or back to my homemade MBC.

I have to agree, I also hate my Profec B Spec II. Same reason, fluctuation in boost depending on gear (Right on in some, lower in others) and daily temp changes make me have to adjust it slightly in the morning to go to work, and coming home from work in the eve. If I don't I'll either underboost by 3lbs, or overboost by 3lbs.

I used a greddy profec B spec 2, worked quite well for me. I tuned boost in conjunction with a piggyback fuel controller on a dyno, I dont know if that makes a huge difference. Boost would swing with the weather, but so does every other affordable boost controller, electric or manual.

I bought an HKS EVC, i've heard they're really good, only difference between the EVC and AVC = Controlling boost in each gear.
