Hi All,I just had the transmission rebuilt on my 91 Q45, in addition to getting new front brake pads and rotors. A few days after the repairs, the ABS light on the dash lit up and my brake lights refused to turn off. It's apparent a computer in the car thinks the brake pedal is depressed, as I'm able to place the car in gear without hitting the brakes. I'm praying, but doubt, the ABS light and stuck brake lights are attributable to a defective brake switch, which should be a relatively easy fix.. Has anyone else had to deal with a similar problem?

Who did you trust to rebuild a 03A transmission? I wish you luck.

I would rather suspect a gear selector switch or sensor. I bet things were not hooked up correctly.

Those switches do fail sometimes... I replaced the one on Q1 at about 100k. It failed open though... first step would be to test it to see if it's open. It's entirely possible that the screwup is with your transmisison rebuilder though... those circuits are interconnected through the shift lock mechanism...

Good luck!

Thanks for the info! Seemed like too much of a coincidence for the brake lights and shift lock mechanism to start acting up after traumatic surgery. I'll post back once I get to the bottom of this mystery in case anyone else has a similar problem. Thanks!

Problem's finally fixed!! Turned out a plastic piece attached to the brake pedal that activates the brake switch had turned brittle and broke. My mechanic couldn't find a replacement piece, so he fabricated one. It took him about an hour, no charge (I'd shelled out quite a bit lately, after all). Let's see what happens next! Thanks for all of your advice!

Just for giggles, tell us the cost of your transmission rebuild [did it include a remanned TC and new valve body] and swap labor.

$2300 for everything, including an improved transmission cooler and 1st gear start TCU. How'd I do?
