Wondering what you people think are the fastest street tires.

According to GRM the Falken tires outperformed the BFG, Advan, Kumho, and Hankook offerings.

Discuss.

My Opinion: Falken RT-615's are the current fastest tire on the market, followed by the Advan Neova. I am firm in believing this having ran two of the tires in this test, and noticing the minute differences between the two.

I will provide ample numbers to support this arguement when I get home.

I'm deciding between RT-615's and a set of RA-1's. i figure my car will see less than 3000 miles a year, between track days and street. So they should be fine either way. That's probably 10 track days during that year.

the 615 may be the fastest tire, but still has heat issues, my vote goes to the AD07.

EDIT: also, I find the test did not do a good comparison of lap consistency testing (as ma be experience on a track day event or road race), where tires like the AD07 and KD would probably destroy the others in their class....

They did several runs for each tire, and even a secondary set of runs for the KD.

The two Falken offerings still ran well.

They managed the tires just the same as you would on a track.

No street tire is going to hold up to back to back to back hot laps in a car that has any ability, and a decent driver.

I'm also considering the Nitto NT01's. They look like a very comparable tire to the RA1's from what I've read.

I have never had the pleasure of driving on Nitto's or Falken's. (we do not sell them) From what we offer, hands down the Yokohama Neova is the winner.

R-compounds are not part of this so all the RA-1's and others are out of the discussion.

for the money, my vote is going to the hankook rs2s. i just got a set mounted on my wheels this past week. at the price for a set, i dont have a problem with running 4 sets a year. i havent done any competition driving on them yet, but the driving i have done is very satisfying. i know ill be sticking with these till something else comes out thats better and cheaper. very very sticky and no road noise.

Hahhah, Advan Neova's will feel like racing slicks compared to those tires Fred

Nitto 555's =

Advan Neovas =

Although I think the RT-615's would be a better choice especially given your fitments.

Ad07 is the win. I just need them made in my sizes.

the Nitto is, and always will be, a good tire for the money...but it's that second point I always cringe at....

Fred, you really shouldinvest in some better tires my friend. IMO the AD07 is better at tollerating heat and shedding it, and will rpovide better ride quality than the Azenis.

Ala, I mean road race/track day style..not autocross heat-and-cool heat-and-cool stuff, I'd like to see a tire go through say 8 laps at road atlanta, and have them average the lap times or graph them so you can see how the tire reacts under the repeated heat and stress...

that's just me though.

Gotta call Jeff at Yokohama / ADVAN (performance brand manager) this upcomming week to see if I can get ahold of the AD07.

Alan what issue did GRM do this test. Fascinating discussion!

RT615 is the per dollar win in my book too.

Seems like the line between all weather and UHP and R compound is really blurred.

Whats awesome is alot of the slimmer tires are reinforced in the Falken line, a few lbs. more but you have the load rating of a larger tire, without the fitment, and without the gearing reduction.

Smith, you know for being in the industry as well as I do..the line between UHP and r-compound is always blurring. Todays AD07 and KD could probably smoke some of the R-compounds from 10 years ago :/

The tires keep getting faster and better...which is great. Part of this, IMO is driven by the proliferation os high and higher output engines, as well as heavier, larger cars in which they are places...the tires are just triyng to keep it all under control!

Like I said I have never driven Nitto tires before, but the Yoko Neova is amazing! When I tested them it was on our tack using our BMW 330 sport coupes. We had the cars lined up with S0-3 Pole Positions on one, Michelin PS2's on another and the Neova's on a third. I drove the Bridgestone and Michelin cars first. Same impression as always with those tires, sticky, good response and good driver feedback. Then I came to the Neova's. Right out of the box I got the feeling in my butt dyno that something wicked was going on underneath the car. I came to the first hard right going into the curves, (this is where I always nail it to see what brakes free and what does not.) I nail the pedal, no slip, squeak or squawk from the tires at all. Just pure grip with no hint of letting loose. As a matter of fact they grabbed so hard I hit my head on the driver's side window from the car sticking and me still moving! From that point on It was love at first sight. The rest of the test was the most fun I had ever had during a tire test. I almost hit 1g on the skid pad and turned the best time I have ever turned on our track ever. Some of the other guys here had the same experience as well. This tire is no joke and worth every penny of the price of admission.

Guys what are the minimum safe operating temps of these tires?

Most summer tires start being grippy above 50* out, some require even higher ambient temps.

The AD07 requires usage above 14* F.. and I would bet it doesn't get grippy until well over that.

I notice a lot of good,s ticky sumemr tires get quite hard below the 60* ambient range, but once they're wearmed up you're ok.-Chet
