The idea of being able to rip or record CDs to an internal hard drive inside the car was very appealing at first. However, now that I've had the chance to play with "Music Box" a bit, it appears that you have to rip/record in real time while you're listening to the cd/song. This just seems ridiculous impractical. Am I missing something, is there another, faster way? I thought you might be even be able to select which tracks you want to rip but apparently, it's all or nothing.

Looking over manual for other options, but not seeing it .. Anyone?

Great idea but poorly implemented.

The entire CD is usually copied by the end of the third track. Not sure about selecting only certain tracks - guess it's back to the manual.

You can choose to "record" a track, or all tracks. Yeah, it's a pain, but I've found it easiest to just let it rip the entire CD. You can then go back and delete any undesired tracks. It's not the most efficient way to do something that is routine to most of us (ripping audio from CD's), but my biggest complaint is the inability to tweak the settings in terms of bit depth etc. All that said, on the whole, it gets the job done and I prefer it to carrying a bunch of CD's around and swapping them out in a disk changer.

Thanks for the replies. I'm better off than I thought anyway, if the whole CD is ripped by the 3rd track. That's not too bad at all.

I'll play with it some more, thanks for the insights.

Thanks - I went to TEXT while the CD was playing and deleted the unwanted track. As you stated, not the most efficient procedure in the world but it works.

You know it's really not that you have to play the CD while it Rips, it's just that it rips rather slow. I'll never understand why they couldn't put a DVD drive with the speeds we have on PC's today in this car so we could be using DVD MP3 disks, that tech is cheap now. Granted the shock capability would need to be better. Also a 9Gb HD, you'd think at least 30Gb for a 2008. I'd pay a grand more if that was the concern. I think Acura's RL has a HD, and DVD audio capability. Add to that CF..lol, that's like 7 years old, where's the mini SD slot. I know with adapter but you get my point. I'll have to ask a friend with a RL if she can play DVD data disks. I expect not which jsut further adds to the puzzlement of why relatively current tech can't make it to the cars.

I just ordered an 8GB CF card, and I think I'll just use that rather than the hard drive. I tried ripping a couple of CDs and the process was cumbersome. The process you have to use to actually play the music is also cumbersome. It somehow remembers what CD the files came off of and groups them together rather than just putting them all into one big music repository.

You can switch to another source while it rips, so it's not that you have to play it while it rips. Music box also won't let you do a full search while driving which kills it for me. You can only seach by mood while driving. Rather anoying and definately should have come with an off switch. Ipod however allows full search, Artist, alblum ect.. while driving..go figure.
