hey i just read this article in the FAQ

http://240sx.org/faq/articles/...o.htm

basicly says if you disconnect a certain component, it will make you shift faster in auto. it says when you do this, you feel a thump and a slight head jerk when your gears shift automaticly. This doesnt sound too good for the transmission.

Has anyone tried this? would this damage my transmission?

I read the same article and was wondering the same thing.I have a 1993 convertible and they only come in an automatic. So being the creative one that I am, I gave it a shot. It shifted faster and harder than before. Talk about being quicker off the line but I only remove the plug when I am feeling cocky. I enjoy my smooth ride, so normally its hooked up. As for doing damage I am not too sure. I sent an email off to a good wrench turner I know and he said hes not an expert on Nissans but if it was his car he wouldnt leave it disconnected. Let me know if you find anything else out.

remember if your auto transmission goes out you dont have to spend 2200 for a new one for that 2200 you could get a stock Ca18det with 5speed then tha spare parts necesary to auto to manual conversion so fry that transmission an do your car some good

I did that on my 97' at the track and it actually SLOWED me down. Not that I wasnt going slow enough. It took me from a 17.099 to a 17.184. I reconnected it shortly after. : )

It does however make it shift harder..dunno why it would slow me down tho....

If you look in the July/August posts, I posted the same questions. It seems that the poeple who replied do not agree on disconnecting that part. So I left mine in...Good luck and let me know.Paul

I tried it too, and it seemed kinda like i was slower, response changed, and it kept downshifting every 4 or 5 seconds when i let off the gas. But worst of all, now my engine light is on and has been on ever since i plugged it back on. This was a few days ago. Anyone have an idea of how worried i should be about my engine light?

Reset the ECU (use the search function to answer that question) and if it stays off, you're all set. If not run the diagnostic and find out what the problem is.

You dont HAVE to reset the ecu....the light will go off by itself eventually. I think its after like 40 starts or somethin. But mine went off faster than that.

Okay. You know, the only reason i have automatic is cause it was the only 240 i could find in my area, and speaking of my area, its the land of hills and stop and go driving. That might not be a big deal, but i'm satisfied w/ AT for now cause of the convenience. But man, i wish i was drivin MT. Really.

Sorry, i just had to get that off my chest and tell somebody.:rolleyes

What I would do if I were you guys is wire it to a switch that you can turn on and off at will. That way when you want it to shift hard it will, but not when you don't. I doubt it will increase wear in the thranny by much, ware is more caused by SLIPPING parts, not by stuff grabbing too hard. All it really does is not let the ECU/transmission know where the throttle is, so it'll just shift as if it's at WOT all the time. It won't actually make it faster for 1/4 mi. I guess MAYBE off the line a bit, but after that I don't see how it would, because you WOULD be at WOT.

I know a lot about Nissan trannys because I had a KA24E truck with an Auto which I ruined. Autos suck, don't waste your money with level10.com, it'll never be as fast as a manual.

I wired in a toggle switch to my ashtray so I can control it from inside my car. I use it off the line, but once I am over 35 MPH I connect it again with a throw of the switch. Its just a tad faster off the line, but its not worth it.
