Alright, I know NICO likes guns, so I expect *some* response.

Ryan and I were talking about making potato guns, spud guns, if you will. Well, I had the bright idea that we should compete and make some and have the forum vote on whos was better. But then I thought we should open it up to everyone else here too.

But, we obviously need to set up some basic ground rules. Things like...ignition chamber size, overall allowable dimensions of the gun, allowed materials for construction, approved fuels, have proof- youtube or hosted videos, pictures, etc. We could all start our own build threads in this section of the forum so we can help (or bust chops) on each others gun making progress.

If you're in for a little friendly competition, lets get something together and we'll construct our spud guns to have the rest of the board in Gen Chat vote.

Who's in?

This thread could be epic. Once they are constructed we should also try and launch beer cans with it. That should be the tube diameter size.

Hmm...summer time is approaching too.

Ok, maybe let's start putting together some rules/specs. Some we could even give ranges. For example, barrel length could be 24-30"?

Barrel diameter:Barrel length:Cumbustion chamber diameter:Cumbustion chamber length:Ignitor:Fuel:Projectile material:Projectile weight:Projectile shape:

Anything else? Barrel lube?

For your enjoyment, whatever you want.Projectile weight: again, potatoes.Projectile shape: Potatoes.

Feel free to change as you see fit. I'm open to whatever.

I've bought a few things, and haven't assembled anything yet, but if everyone wants to hold off for an official start/end date I'm good with that.

Why no propane?

Also, my uncle built one that could shoot potatoes or baby carrots. ZOMG those baby carrots could move!

I went to school with a guy who had one at a state park and got arrested for carrying an illegal firearm in a state park.

My friend Jimmy made a sick propane powered one, it was like 8-9ft. I'll try to find a pic.

abandon all hope i'd win this bish. not only is my grandfather a plumber so i have a barn full of pvc to build this out of, but the last one i made shot a golf ball through a wooden shed. i must say i'm pretty good at this using a different design from the one posted above. i used aresol and lighter as fuel, if i have time to build one it'll be even more epic then my last.

Well, since I am the only one of you pussbags that actually has a potato gun, I guess I win for the moment. Come on, they are fun as hell and only take an hour to make.

Mine is huge (thats what she said), and will freaking put a potato into orbit. I use Acetylene when possible, but you run a big risk of grenading the chamber because its so powerful a fluid.

I gas ported the barrel, because it looks cool. Bite me.

Ive got a handle with the lighter all up in it. Open the back, spray in gas, close, click, BOOM!

Ive got a 4" barrel for big proper potatoes, and the small one for golf balls, rocks, and plugs of ice the exact ID of the barrel.

Now go build a better one. I made this one in middle school. I have blown up lesser ones, but this one has stood the test of time.

haha, back from the dead. But I'm still game! If you wanna build, lets build! Review what ground rules were established previously and we can work from there!
