If you are a fan of drifting, I need just a minute or two of your time to respond to these questions for my Marketing Comm class project. All questions are open ended, you may write as little or as much as you want, please number your answers in correspondance with the question that it relates to:

1. Are you a fan of drifting through spectation or participation or both?

2. What is the main appeal of drifting, to you?

3. Of companies that are drift sponsors, do you hold them in at a different level than other tuning companies?

4. Would you be more likely to buy products from a Drifting sponsor?

5. Do you follow any drift drivers specifically? If so, who?

6. If a drift driver from a team (lets say Signal) were to change teams, would you be loyal to the driver or the team, or both?

7. What, if anything, makes drifting better than other motorsports?

Thanks a bunch everyone!

1. Are you a fan of drifting through spectation or participation or both? Both, more on the participation side. if i had to choose between driving a local event and watching D1 in person, id drive every time

2. What is the main appeal of drifting, to you?its fun.

3. Of companies that are drift sponsors, do you hold them in at a different level than other tuning companies?not much, only the fact they have recognized the buying power of the drift market and are trying to capitolize on it.

4. Would you be more likely to buy products from a Drifting sponsor?no, i buy things from companies that make good proudcts or have good prices/service. just because they sponsor X driver/car dosent mean im now gonna buy from them

5. Do you follow any drift drivers specifically? If so, who?only the people ive met in person and who arent ***holes. not gonna list names.

6. If a drift driver from a team (lets say Signal) were to change teams, would you be loyal to the driver or the team, or both?i dont care about teams or who drives what car.

7. What, if anything, makes drifting better than other motorsports?if anything its more exciting to watch, but personally i love watching a good road race just as much as watching drifting.

1. Are you a fan of drifting through spectation or participation or both?-I'm a fan boy. I've never had a car, thats rear wheel drive, but I am looking to get a 240 and put a rb25 in it and drift circles around those losers who think they're doing anything cool in formula d. I can beat any of them, i've been doing this since i was 12 years old on the dirt roads in kansas in my dad's pickup truck.

2. What is the main appeal of drifting, to you?-The chicks. I would probably lose my virginity if i was a big drifting star!!

3. Of companies that are drift sponsors, do you hold them in at a different level than other tuning companies?-No

4. Would you be more likely to buy products from a Drifting sponsor?-No, the word sponsor means they need to give me the **** for free. duh.

5. Do you follow any drift drivers specifically? If so, who?-I Love Verena Mei.

6. If a drift driver from a team (lets say Signal) were to change teams, would you be loyal to the driver or the team, or both?-Verena is cool. She could drive a zamboni and i'd be loyal to her.

7. What, if anything, makes drifting better than other motorsports?-Verena mei, duh.

1. Both.2. Being able to do something amazing with my car.3. Same level as other companies.4. I'll buy what ever I want. A sticker rarely pushes me to buy something.5. No6. I'd be loyal to drifting and remain a fan of both driver and team.7. Driving in a straight line really fast is easy. Driving in cricles 500 times SEEMS easy. Not everybody can just get into a "drift" car and start out drifting like a savage right off the bat. Drifting takes a lot of skill and practice. I think that is why i like Drifting over other motorsports.

1. Are you a fan of drifting through spectation or participation or both?

Both

2. What is the main appeal of drifting, to you?

Requires driving skills that are much more indepth than driving in a F'ing straight line for 10 seconds!! Plus it's cool to see technique and control of the vehicle and the smoke's awesome too!

3. Of companies that are drift sponsors, do you hold them in at a different level than other tuning companies?

Not really they just have more money to throw around. There are alot of bad A$$ tuning companies that aren't throwing decals of their name on cars.

4. Would you be more likely to buy products from a Drifting sponsor?

No!

5. Do you follow any drift drivers specifically? If so, who?

Ernie Fixmer, we served in the Marines together ... he got out I'm still in. Really great driver and technically skilled guy! Taught me alot about SR20's and 4AGE's!

6. If a drift driver from a team (lets say Signal) were to change teams, would you be loyal to the driver or the team, or both?

Non-Biased

7. What, if anything, makes drifting better than other motorsports?

More about the fun and driver skill than money & draggin a straght line or driving in a big *** circle... In case you didn't notice I hate drag racing and nascar!

1. Are you a fan of drifting through spectation or participation or both?First, obviously from spectation (back in '97). As you start trying it yourself though, you realize the skill level it entails to achieve such a driving style. That is when you come to respect it and appreciate its talent and aesthetics.

2. What is the main appeal of drifting, to you?Attacking the corners. The exhileration of they tail "losing control" without really losing control. They sound of the tires screeching. The smell of disintergrated rubber. They pulse of the throttle. The Feint. The timing, the coordination, the sheer beauty of a car violating the standard of forward motion. One of the biggest factors is that it involves more than wearing stickers, bolting on parts and merely stepping on the gas. There is some serious skill involved. As Keiichi Tsuchiya puts it 'power is not everything'. It involves a 'balance'.

3. Of companies that are drift sponsors, do you hold them in at a different level than other tuning companies?I would say so, to a certain point. Why shouldn't I? They are appealing to the sport I have chosen to love. They strive to not only market the products that can help me drift better, faster, or with less effort but, they strive to do exactly that: bring improvement.

4. Would you be more likely to buy products from a Drifting sponsor?More likely, yes. Not exclusively, though. They show, by sponsoring, that their product performs. This does not mean to me that they are the only company that provides a product that can perform to my expectations.

5. Do you follow any drift drivers specifically? If so, who?I do. Specifically Ueo, Taniguchi, Ken Nomura,

6. If a drift driver from a team (lets say Signal) were to change teams, would you be loyal to the driver or the team, or both? Some companies and drivers have earned certain levels of respect. That would depend entirely on which driver and/or which sponsor.

7. What, if anything, makes drifting better than other motorsports? The Skill and the Beauty of a car sliding sideways against all common reasoning while connecting the corners (which many drivers find difficult even when going straight).

Awesome, thanks for the additional responses guys!

Funny thing is, my professor gave me a 30 out of 50 on this paper, not for mechanics, but because he said the "online sources indicate a lack of real work and a lack of penetration into the subculture".Cough..... bull****. Forums are an excellent source to confine subcultures. Most forums specialize in one to a few cars, same make, or same motorsport interest. In fact, forum questionaire responses would be less tainted then personal responses as the internet causes people to let go of the social inhibitions that they may have in a face to face interview.
