I've driven a lot of G50s, but I never bothered trying the climate controls. It seems to me that my fan (the one for the climate system) doesnt blow enough air. Is this a normal thing for the Q?

When the AC is running, its definitely cold enough, but not enough air is coming through the vents to distribute the cold air.

I have to close up half the vents to get a sufficient gust of air flowing. Meanwhile, the minivan blows enough air to properly maintain the interior temperature for the entire cabin.

Any thoughts?

Hmm, I dunno...

The Q seems to have a more then powerfull fan. In fact if I put it at auto/65/recirculating the fan blows out so hard, I usually turn it down to 3, until it gets cold..

I will say the coldest A/C I ever experienced in a car, was the J30.. I had a BLACK ON BLACK J30 with 0 tint, and in az 110+ summers, I would have to turn the thing down after a few minutes.. it simply froze my cojones off... Not to mention J30s didn't have freon, which makes it even more spectacular..

Back to the Q. I have found if you put all the vents on you (except the passanger right, the fan should cool you down NP.. most people comment on how hard the fan blows out..

maybe something is up with your Q.. you have a freon Q as well, which should cool you even better then mine..

Strange

My fan will blow your hair off, it happened to me. :D

See if you have a twinkie wrapper blocking the air inlet under the dash.

Mine blows so hard it scares passengers when it cranks up.

Okay I have no freaking clue what I'm looking at. The FSM shows vague diagrams. Maybe you guys can help?

Here's some pictures of the glove box removed:

Glove box out.

Zoomed in.

Looking directly under the passenger side vent.

Something white way down and in the back that looks like either a duct or a connector? (Thats the light Im holding in my hand).

Thanks!-Jesda

Remove the silver fan motor speed control unit [center of Pics #1&2] from air box. 2 screws and unplug. With strong light and dental mirror look left into air box at evaporator input side for dirt oil blockages.

With angled small tubing you should be able to spray pressurized air and cleaning chemicals, fine water soapy solvent mix and clean some what.

You could carefully drill a small drain hole at bottom of air box just before evaporator and reseal later.........there already is a big drain for evap on the other side of unit [drips under car].

Better to evac AC system and disassemble and remove evap to clean easier and more completely..........but not having AC recharge equipment and 5-6 hours is a problem.

Gravity forces the dirt oil to fall to bottom of evap fins.

The evap is 6" thick with multiple looped rows of fins:http://www.tellico4x4.com/images/omix/4798705.jpg

I went in exploring, and you know that whole plastic cooling thing?? Couldnt we just drop the bottom of that out??? Itd be like dropping the transmission pan or something like that, clean it out!

Jesda, while your in there, check your ECU codes. Your 9/10 of the way done!!! Just remove that little carpeted kick panel I removed at the meet, the 2 screws holding it on.

Take a 10mm wrench, remove the harness connector, take out the ECU, reattach the harness (be sure it goes on straight), turn the car to ON (not started, turn the screw in the front all the way to the one side, and all the way bcak..... Then count the blinks......

So, I took Dennis's instructions and went at it. Here's what we've got:

Armed with a big fork, a philips head screwdriver, and a can of air.

There's a look inside at the evaporator. At first, before I shined a light on it, I figured it was just a plastic wall. It was so caked up full of gunk, I had no idea it was even there.

Here's a look at some of what I removed. I didnt get all of it, just the stuff that was easy to reach. I'll be going back in there later with a vaccuum and doing a more thorough job.

The end result? Twice as much air flows out of the vents as before. I get now a nice cool breeze instead of a faint sputter. I'll probably replace the evaporator next year.

Thanks Dennis!

Blekkk! That's gnarly.

There's some stuff you can get at Home Depot or Lowe's that's for your household air handler that loosens the gra-doo stuck in the evaporator coils, and doesn't leave a residue.

Worth a try.

I talked with Jesda about this, and I came up with 2 idea...

Shop air, need I say more? Also, somehow rig a straw on the end of a shop vac.......

Too bad we dont have some dentistry tools, theyre litlte gun with air and water would help...

Out of curiousity, where is the evaporator drain, IE can we use soapy water and itll just drain out?

Surfactants (surface acting agents?) leave a residue, Wes. That's why I posted about the coil cleaner stuff.

MBL Industries, Inc.990 Industrial Park DrMARIETTA, GA 30062800-241-7766

Same reason for when you wet clean a carpet, it gets dirtier faster, the soap residue attracts dirt & won't release. Biggest scam in the world, wet carpet cleaning is like crack.

I (had) two Chow Chow dogs for the last 12-14 yrs. Their hair gets everywhere. It had clogged up the evaporator in the house. I couldn't dig it out for messing up the fins. I sprayed some of this stuff on the coils & it lifted it out of the fins. A quick, properly executed wipe across the surface removed the hair & gradoo.

More importantly, it left a smooth, clean surface that was easier to clean the next time.

Sorry, don't wanna preach, just have a little experience on this.

im sorry heavy, I misunderstood your post, or maybe I didnt see it when I posted my other one!!!

So basically what we could do is spray this stuff on the evaporator and wipe or suck it off???? Sounds pretty easy to me.!

Ok, I went out and did this to my Q... Mine wasnt nearly as bad, on the edges they were the worst...

First, the 94 has a different design.. There are 4 bolts on what is jesda's metal bar in the 2nd picture. You have to remove those ALONG with the 2 bolts in the glove box, and the 2 screws on the hinge.....

So I get in there, and the edges are by far the worse, it was caked... For the edge closest to me I could reach my finger in there and sorta rub it off into balls...

After that, I got a flathead screwdriver and worked on the other side, having the blade going perpedicular to the evap, so im scraping with the side.... Be gentle you dont want to bend the fins...

I would ball it up a litlte, and then stick my shopvac in there with the long narrow extension in there and suck stuff up...

As I was working in there, the whole bottom had leaves and stuff of that nature down in there..... So got a hanger and bent it in the shape of a hook on one end, and on the other end of an upside-down L... Theres a little copper tube in there, and I bent it SLIGHTLY out of the way so I could get the attachment in there.....

I would bunch the stuff to the middle and vacuum it out.. There's rubber on the bottom, so dont think its gooey stuff..

After I got out much as I could, I took a spray bottle with a stream thing, and sprayed it on the evap on the places that I missed... Then I dumped some water in there to flush it out and clear the drain until it would pour out...

got it all put bcak together, and thers noticeably more air coming out, especially on the passengerside, right hand vent, where passengers would complain about insufficient airflow.....

Cost was free, improvement was good, so free+good= :D :D
