fan noise

The cooling fan in my z makes alot of noise when the engine is running. When i drive the noise gets louder and overtakes the exhaust. My z basically sounds like a commercial truck going down the road. The higher i rev the engine the louder it gets. I can spin the fan by hand but its has some resistance. I say it turns about half way then stops. Do i need a new clutch? Should the fan spin freely with no resistance? My cousin has a twin turbo and his stock fan is soooooooo quiet. Help please.

fan clutch locked up, it's a common issue as these cars are 14-21 years old now, you need a new fan clutch

If you can try to get one from the nissan dealer, the ones from the auto parts store will not last at all.
