the last few days ive noticed a fairly loud fan noise when i push the gas coming from undernieth my hood that was definitly not there before. i popped the hood, but the only thing i could see was that the second fan, closest to the radiator, doesnt spin until the gas is pushed. of course this could be normal, or the fan might not be spinning at all and just moving under the wind from the other.

was just curious if anyone might know my problem, thanks

If there is any fan noise, it's probably the big one that's hooked up to the waterpump pulley aka clutch fan. You are correct about the electrical fan closest to the radiator not spinning, rather, spins from the air being pushed by the clutch fan. That electrical fan only comes on, to my knowledge, if the AC is used or the temperature is higher then normal. Check the fan shroud for the clutch fan to see if that's the part being hit. Otherwise, just check all the clearance and you should find your problem.

ill definitly check all the clearence...the sound is like loud blowing wind, almost makes me think the fan might be cracked, there is no rattle tho.

yeah, sounds like your fan clutch is not disengaging.

one way to check it is to try to stop the fan w/ your shoe at idle. you should be able to stop the fan relativly easy.

good luck

Just remove that fan all together.. Some will say its good some will say its bad since its on the balancer..As long as you have the AC fans you'll be ok and as long as its not 100+ out n youre not ragging your car. Think about it, youre removing quite a few lbs of rotating mass..

thanks for all the help. im probably going to get a local shop to look at it and see exactly whats broke. id like to remove the fan, but id like to replace it with some electrical ones if the price difference is not too bad.

Just wondering if this problem was fixed?

I believe a sound I am experiencing in my 89 240 could be the fan. I do have a fairly new fan clutch (less than a year).

I need some ideas on fan probs. Thank you.

well i have a fan noise when i first turn on the motor (when warmed up tho) and when i stop for like a light or something. Its seems to go away when i rev it up to 2.5 or so (in both occasions).

That is normal correct? cuz i does kinda bog down the engine a little.
