I have a sohc ka and the radiator fan is constantly on. It seems to match the Speed of the motor when i gas it. Higher the rpm the faster and louder the fan gets. Its really annoying when just normal driving. I know its not supposed to be on all the time like that so there must be a problem somewhere. Can you guys help?

thats because you fan is belt driven. It is actually supposed to be on all the time because it is driven by your motor running via the belt.

Is it supposed to be loud as hell? its obnoxiously loud when I'm driving, like I can't even hear the exhaust sometimes.I think something may be wrong.

Also should I be able to move to fan with my hand? (while the engine is off of course)

...because I can't, its hard as a rock and I can't move it at all. I heard that my fan clutch may be seized or going out. Ideas?

Fan and shroud have no cracks/defects.Could it be the fan clutch?

I do believe the clutch should be disengaged when the engine is shut off and cooled down. Since the fan doesn't need to be turning when you are going down the highway it "turns off" so the engine doesn't have to work as hard to turn it. Overtime the bimetal inside the clutch wears down from too many heat cycles and can cause the fan to "jam" as in your case. Try to find one in a junkyard they shouldn't charge you too much for it, and don't forget to make sure it operates propoerly before you but it. lol

That is definitely a fan clutch problem. Get rid of it ASAP. Its unsafe for it to be spinning that fast when you get up in RPMs. When that thing goes it will destroy your radiator and pipes, and God knows what else. Ditch it and get an electric unit which will cool better and wont give you this problem.

-That is the problem with the innanet, people will actually listen and believe you...destroying your radiator, wtf?...if the fan sheds blades they will fly out along the plane of rotation, away from the radiator. Tests have actually shown that the stock fan cools better than electric fans.

To the original poster, you may have a failed fan clutch.

Same goes for you. I have links to actual tests that show that electric fans cool better than the stock fan.

Mine was doing the same thing, picked up a fan+clutch from a friend and it all went away. My fan was cracked so I replaced both, sounds like you just need the clutch. Its an easy fix, took like 20 minutes.

Alright thanks guy I'll head to the junkyard to pick up fan clutch later on today.Would it be worth it to just buy a new one? h.240 said bimetal inside the clutch wears down from too many heat cycles, would it be worth it to just buy a new one and eliminate this from happening again anytime soon?

eh theyre 40 bucks at autozone brand new. I'd just do that. Save you from picking up a rusted to crap one. Only reason I got mine used is because it was free.

You can say what you want, but I've seen damage first hand. I guess 'destroyed' would have been the wrong word, but it punctured it and rendered it useless. Its no joke.

Ok, let me revise my statement:Tests have actually shown that the stock fan cools better than someelectric fans.

Those tests are inconclusive, even though there is a flow issue with the mechanical fans above 3k rpm the two lowest temperature rises during the in-car high boost runs were with the mechanical fan. The heat soak test was slightly worse with the mechanical but only just.

Also the Sr water pump is known to cavitate at high rpm impeding water flow. KA's, like the origonal poster has, don't have that problem.
