ok so i noticed on my 91 de theres an electric fan and a mechanical fan. now im thinkin im just gunna hook the electric fan up to a 12v source and a switch and just get rid of the mech fan. my thinking is that ill gain a couple hp like i did in my 76 camaro when i switched over to an electric fan. ideas? comments? opinions?

you really wont gain any real HP by removing the mech fan. your take off will be a bit quicker but not huge gain.

That little e fan won't keep your motor cool. You will overheat if you do not put a bigger fan on it. That little fan just keeps your a/c condenser cool when you are at an idle so your a/c blows a/c cold instead of normal ambient air cold.

yea, prob wouldnt work out too well. but if u want to go electrical, there are plenty of stock electric fans to be had at a junk yard, just do some search on which ones u should look for

dude..you will see HP gains and a quiker throttle responce time...but..you will want a duel fan set up on an aluminum radiator..fans can be had at a pepboys for 50 bucks a pop..they work fine with toggle switches...use 1 when your normal driving..and 2 when you get her really hot..good luck

My clutch fan went out so i pulled the stock E-fan off my Talon Tsi(project car) and mounted it on. Im still waiting on getting a relay and thermo sensor, but for now i have it wired in so when my defrost fan setting is in use the fan kicks in.

Do you still have to switch it on manually?

you are going to want to get actual fans man..dont use that chepo fan for the AC...and get 2 fans...if you overheat and dont pay attention..its bye bye headgasket and bye bye money...take my advice...toggle it with 2 switches and 2 fans.

i agree, thats not exactly something u would want to skimp out on. even of some people say theres has been fine without a fan, it only takes once and that could be it.and before u replace the radiator, do u plan on doing a motor swap? cause it would be kinda pointless to buy a new KA radiator if u plan on doing an sr swap in the future. but if u plan on goin NA or ka-t u would be fine. not trying to insult ur inteligence or anything, just throwing that out there.

i used the a/c fan as my fan it doesnt over heat at all unless you are doing burnouts and doughnuts but for everyday driving it will be alright. but later on i recommend getting electric fans. right now i'm about to get my two electric fans in the mail.
