anyone tried this? a single fan behind the fmic. This shoiuld cool down the fmic on a hot day, and all the air sucked through the fan will go through the ac condensor and help cool the radiator... maybe

that is stupid. you dont need a fan to your fmic. your are not boosting at idle.you will get enought air once you are going .

But it would help nonetheless. How is more cooling going to hurt your performance. Now depending on the draw of the fan compared to hp gains is the question.

they make water sprayers for intercoolers i'm not sure if a fan would be useful you can try it though. water spraying is pretty effective though.

This will mainly just "help" you a little to bring in air to the condenser/radiator. However, it will do nothing intercooler wise, such as cooling the air for boost.

Cooler air = denser airDenser air = more power

I dont see how this could be a bad thing. As 214kKA said, it would help the most while sitting in traffic, but after a hard run, it would probably help prevent heatsoak (or at least, slow it down).

There's already people who do this, and for good reason.

Adding a fmic makes it harder for air to go from outside -> engine bay. It's another obstacle in the path.

By having a fan between the fmic & radiator, you can effectively use it as a pull fan for fmic & a push fan for radiator. No, this won't help under boost conditions much, but will totally help for most of daily driving, which is just as big of a concern for most of us.

This should definitely help during idle. Of course, you will need good shroud construction so it pulls air through instead of around.

Once you hit a certain speed, fans don't matter much anymore anyway - that's y some of us have that handy dandy "highway speed - turn off fan" button.

I guess this can be considered an alternative to the v-mount setups.

The only way to know for sure how effective this is is to run tests & get some temperature readings, but I'm sure most of us are too lazy to do that, I know I am.

my friend has a second gen eclipse. He built an ice tray right behind his intercooler and dump a bag full of ice behind his IC before each runs. Works good for him...i'm thinkin about doing the same thing to mine

You know the ECU turns off the fans once you reach 25mph, right?

My car never came w/ electric fans (unless you count the ac fan which no longer works).

I had a clutch fan.

I have an electric set up now... but that turns off w/ a certain temperature - don't know how to set it up for speed yet.

I'm inclined to try

there is a pretty big room to fit at least 1 electric fan behind the greddy vspl before the AC condenser.

the flex a lite fan I have behind koyo radiator just isn't doing it for me, in a socal afternoon my hot side radiator hose reading is 90C while the stock water temp sensor reads about 85C. Add 5C to each if I'm stuck in traffic.

Change coolant/water ratio + water wetter is perhaps a popular thing to do but at the same time, the water still corrode the engine and other parts. Since the problem is caused by FMIC, adding another fan might just be the remedy to our cooling problem.

The cooling of FMIC core, if it actually works, is just icing on the cake.

The hardest part of this would be fabricating a shroud....

I really wouldn't waste my time or money doing this. In the 100º weather yesterday, it felt like an oven when i bent over the engine bay. I run a Koyo radiator and permacool 14" fan. I also removed the A/C condenser so there is a lot of open space between the IC and rad. Not once did my temps climb up. I felt my greddy vspl FMIC after an hour of hard driving and it felt cool to the touch. Unlike when I felt my hotpipe which was too hot to touch.

Point: Even at the worst temps, my Greddy V-SPL did not heatsoak. Using a fan on something that stays cool while moving is stupid. Like the other guy said, the FMIC isn't heating like a radiator at idle, and that's all the extra fan could be good for.

plus, wat ever fan you have on your car (fan clutch, or electric one) you are already getting air throght one of them, so really this idea doesnt really work , cuz like i said , you are not boosting at idle, it will help radiator , but not a fmic, and if it really worked, then there would be lots of advertisment on fmic fans.

Or it's just simpler for the spray kits for intercoolers.....Or they make more profitCuz no matter what your setup is you can squeeze the lines to it while fan modification has to be done on some cars am I right?
