Ive changed belts on my 2002 pathy and tightened and tightened the belts to no avail. They squeal horribly at startup and subside after a few secs. The radiator cooling fan seems to go full blast at startup so Im going to throw a new 54$ fan clutch on this weekend to see if it helps. Hate to start throwing parts at it, but am really enjoying no car payment!

The serpentine belt on these things has to be ridiculously tight for it not to squeal.
Almost to the point where you think you're going to break the idler.

I have an aftermarket fan clutch installed, too, and it sounds like a single engine plane taking off for the first 15 seconds after starting. Have you tried greasing the idler pulleys?

That is to say, I think that's the nature of the aftermarket types.
