Just wondering if anyone could tell me if a bad fan clutch will make the car run hotter than it should. its not over heating but ive noticed that when i open up the hood these days the engine seems hotter than it used to be. the fan is Cracked so i will be replacing it. i dont get any loud roaring noise.

thanksEarl

clutch could be bad, not locking up at all as engine heats up. most are opposite failure, clutch remains locked at all times and roars.

sure, less airflow being pulled thru radiator-especially at idle/low speed bumper traffic

If the fan clutch is locked up, it runs at full engine speed, all the time - which wouldn't make the engine run hotter. If anything, it might run a tad cooler.

If the clutch is slipping, it would definitely make the engine run hotter.

If you're going to be replacing a cracked fan, you might consider replacing the clutch at the same time. They tend to degrade over the years - They slip more and more, resulting in slower fan speed for any given engine speed.

Don't scrimp on a cheap replacement clutch - The Nissan/Infiniti replacement part is more expensive, but definitely worth it.
