I know must would say, just replace it.
But why. When I can spend a $10, or $0. And it's all good.
Here is the fan clutch, as you can see the silicone oil is burnt.
I will change the oil at a later time. With some 5k R/C diff. Oil.but not today.
Anyway, if your fan clutch is howling like your driving a big rig. It's in the open position. As mine is. So how to temp fix it.
Pull the thermo spring. And super glue the shaft it was attached to, in the middle of the fan clutch. In the closed position. Yes it will spin, but very slow.
NO IT WILL NOT COOL THE CAR DOWN IN TRAFFIC.
You can adjust the shaft so that it 1/2 or 3/4 open.
If you are wanting to fix it by replacing the oil.
I use the oven to heat it up to 260° while sitting in a 99 cent metal turkey pan.
Then after an hour, take it out and measure the amount of oil, and add it back into it. Screw back together and drive the car. To test the fan clutch engagement. And car temperature.

The cooling system on an all aluminum V8 is not the place to pinch pennies......one serious overheat and you can destroy the engine.A fan clutch is not that expensive of a part to purchase, and super easy and fast to swap to play Russian Roulette with your entire engine.

Lol,
I agree,with you. No doubt.
I'm just let others know how a fan clutch works on this car.
As most will buy, from a parts store and not the manufacturer. The parts house i.e autozone , pep boys, Kragen.
Most of those fan clutches have 10k oil in them. And if you are in a hot climate. Work great. I am not in a hot climate.
OEM $185
Others range at$ 37-125
I do agree with you completely. If the fan clutch has failed and you are overheating.
Replace it.
I'm not overheating.
I just don't want to hear to ROAR!!
Of the fan in 70° weather.
So this is my fix for that.

I resemble that remark! Besides, beggars are being choosers here. I could stay silent and junk my Q, or I can fight for it with every penny I have left.
