Anyone running a CA18ET ('85 200SX Turbo) fan clutch on their DET fan?

My 130 000 km circa 1990 unit is starting to go, wobbling all over the place and such.

I know the water pump side will work, since I have a CA18ET water pump. But I don't know it'll bolt up to my DET fan, and whether or not the length will work (don't want fan blades to contact shroud). Judging by pictures of the new clutches on the parts houses' websites and looking at my DET clutch, they look basically the same. But I'd like to hear if anyone's actually done this before I spend any money.

PS, please don't tell me to switch to electric fans. I've had one in the past on my CA18 and I don't really want another. Thx

sorry I can not contribute, but yes clutch fans are awsome.

I'll prolly go back to one eventually.

I even like how fan shrouds look in the engine bay, call me crazy.

Word, main reason I switched back was looks.

No more stupid gap between engine and radiator, and nifty tabs to mount stock IC piping too. I'm in love.

That and the engine warms up quicker, isn't overcooled, and the e-fan temp switch is no longer causing a stupid leak.

I run the radiator shroud because of its hotness. Makes it look so much cleaner. I got rid of my clutch fan in 2003, so no going back now. My FWD water pump and the fan didn't get along, and it was 2003 so the CA18 was totally unheard of. No info on that whole nightmare yet. Wheee! Trial and error!!

its ok, what doesnt kill your CA makes it stronger.......... besides everything works with enough duct tape.

i was gonna quote some, but decided i would end up quoting all your posts lol...

so ill just add in...

my efan wasnt cooperating from time to time and would give up on me at the wrong times like idling after driving through I95...and overheating more than 5 times didnt kill my CA so i guess it made it stronger XD?? and yeah when Casey Hoffman sold me all his stuff he threw in his fan and shroud...it was the first thing i put in...CA shrouds are sooo much sexier than KA shrouds lol...just my opinion...

People run the ET w/p because it lines up right WITH the DET clutch fan as apposed to the DE wp....... should have no problem at al.

why not try it. clutch fans are not exactly scientific items. I have two 12 electric fans if you need them, but that clutch fan should work fine.

PS you can run a FWD WP so long as you are not using a clutch fan. that is the only issue with the FWD w/p

I went through basically the same thought process as this and coughed up $30 for a new CA18ET fan clutch at rockauto.com (gotta love the "wholesaler closeout" pricing, and I got the last one! ahaha)

I have a Taurus fan + temp switch + wiring sitting in the garage that I ran for about 7 months. It worked fine, even overcooled the engine at times. I just get bored easily and wanted to try the clutch fan since it looks cooler

We'll see if that ET fan clutch works, fingers are crossed.

Bumping this to let future peeps know that the CA18ET (85 200SX Turbo) fan clutch works. Bolted right up to my CA18DET fan, etc.

One little issue, if you're a Koyo + clutch fan you might have some scraping on the shroud because of how much further the Koyo sticks out (pushes the shroud out). I need like 1/8" more clearance, so I should be able to find that somewhere haha.

Yay for fast shipping, good luck, and CA18s

its crazy that im slowly going back to stock setup on a few things in my old age

if anyone would like to sell their fan shroud lmk. it has to be in good shape with no rips, tears or broken tabs
