I've got a '91 240sx SE and the car drives great. It's got 202,000 miles on it but runs strong. Only problem, is between 2 and 3k...it hesitates pretty bad and it's annoying so i avoid that range if at all possible. I've cleaned the MAF and replaced the plugs and wires with NGK(both). Could it possibly be the TPS? I've searched but everyone's problems seem to be the MAF is dirty...maybe mine's crap because it's old? It looked clean...anyway, thanks in advance

Does it go above 3k at all or does it stay there?

yeah, it goes above there just fine...it just hesitates between 2 and 3k. It doesn't really do it if i get on it...just when i'm driving easy. I can't be flooring it around all the time though, i'd like to get decent gas mileage

doesn't sound maf related. Agree about tps, possible o2's as well.

I didn't even think about the o2 sensor. It doesn't really do it in 1st gear...think that changes anything?

Check the tps, it's one of the easier places to start. You can download the FSM from VQ35de.com/esm/nissan

I would also check the EGR system for clogs. I had an Accord that did the same thing. When I took it to my mechanic he said the EGR system was clogged. He cleaned it out and it ran great after that. I just took my EGR system off my engine completely. That way I don't run into this problem.

A properly functioning EGR besides reducing Nox emissions can increase highway cruise mpg by 7-12%!
