I just recently purchased a set of stock 15" SE alloys for my s13. The tires I opted to go with were the Falken Ziex ZE-512's. They were 53 bucks a peice with free shipping at discount tire direct, so I was pretty happy.

I went with the 205/60 size, same as the "summer tires" on some SE model 240s. I knoticed that the 205/60 tires were 53 each, but the 205/55 size is 73 each. Why is that? I would think one size down would only be a small change in price... heres the specs below:

205/60R-15 91H BTreadwear: 420 Traction: A Temperature: A Speed Rating: HR

205/55R-15 88H BTreadwear: 300 Traction: A Temperature: A Speed Rating: VR

Does the lower treadwear rating mean its a softer compound? It also has a lower load rating... but higher speed rating.

Also Good or Bad comments are welcomed on the tire choice, flame away!

Thanks!

you'd want to run the air pressure higher, the reason the tire in the 205-55-15(listein in michelins mast fitment as a plus zero optional fitment) costs more is a few reasons:-less made(it fits less cars, thusly less are made, the price per unit manufacturing wise is greater..)-higher performance tread compound (again making the manufacturing costs greater)

there ya go :)good choice in tires, I woulda bought the 205-55-15 though.... AZ hitman loves his 512's-chet

Basically im coming from steelies and 195/60 Firehawk GTAs (yikes!!). From what I hear I'm actually pretty lucky with the tires, most have had to replace 2/4 due to balancing issues. I only have slight issue with one in the front.

Hopefully the new rims and tires will be a decent step up from what I have now. Having a wider tread (205 vs 195) will definately improves handling but Im wondering how much my choice (60 vs 55 is 20mm larger diameter i think) will effect the feel (more tread squirm?). FYI I chose the 60 because it looks like it "fits" better in the wheel well, fender gap is kinda large. I am putting in Prokits and GR2s to fix as much of the fender gap as possible, but i also need something to fill it better as well.
