Hey all,
This is a discussion that I've seen on a few other forums and I'd like to hear from Nico.
I've decided to grab a Nissan Fairlady Z emblem for my TT pretty soon here.
Yet there is the age old argument of JDM vs USDM that comes up whenever this topic is brought up.

By now we all know the history of the Z car and how the name "Fairlady" was chosen.
My personal opinion (key word opinion) is that it pays homage to the Z heritage and Mr. K himself.
Also due to due to how the name came about in the first place, I think it screams "America" as well.

Other schools of thought believe that a Fairlady emblem should be strictly reserved for RHD Japanese Zs.
What is everyone's thoughts on the matter?

Also, as a bit of a disclaimer I've seen some other similar topics elsewhere erupt into a flame war.
I was a bit hesitant posting it at first but the people here on Nico seem a lot more mature so I'm hoping this topic stays informative and friendly ;)

Thanks!

simple , every Z is a fairlady Z . they only discontinued the "fairlady Z" for the USDM for marketing purposes. rock the fairlady Z emblem with pride.

This was always my understanding as well, and what I explained once to a girl who asked me if my NA Z was a Fairlady.

As for my opinion of whether a vintage Fairlady badge is doable or not, I think that's what makes the whole car scene what it is- each person's tastes and style on display, so do what you feel works and looks best! :dblthumb:

My personal opinion is: I hate badges in general lol. I love the look of a naked, clean Z32! I also love the story behind the Fairlady. As stated above... a modified car is a personal representation of one's taste and style. I can't shun someone for their individuality.

The whole "only RHD can be Fairlady" is stupid. Lots of cars are renamed for foreign markets, some due to translation issues, some due to cultural differences. If the car is mechanically the same then there is no harm in rebadging.

I've always liked the name and the story behind it. Like you, I think it pays homage to the heritage and I would happily wear it on my car.

I waited until my Z was worthy of the Fairlady Z badge.
After completing the car, it was the final piece to go on. Paying respect to the Fairlady name.

Kind of reminds me of the whole "miata or mx5" label here in Canada. Same as the jeep "TJ or Wrangler" label. They are a label.

On the other hand I have a "real" Fairlady and out of habit only call JDMs Fairladys (as well as 300s) and USDMs only 300s.

I also ordered Nissan Fairlady Z & Twin Turbo decals to replace the rear wing decals that have fallen off and will have te leather in my seats done with Fairlady Z in cursive when I redo my interiors leather.

Really, it comes down to you and from what the guys above me are saying it's not that big of a deal. I'm an enthusiast, your an enthusiast, we drive a kickass car. Label it how you want I won't make fun! :bigthumb:

I had a fairlady emblem on my N/A. Whenever I end up painting the TT, I'll probably order a set for it as well.
