2009 Rogue S
107,000 miles.

Northeast Ohio Dealer quotes for the following, which he says are urgent:

R/F Control arm $679.99
Alignment $138.76
Front Stabilizer Links $487.20
105,000 Services $608.48
Tune Up $350.56
INJS $ 149.44

TOTAL: $2,414.42

Are these costs in line? Would you recommend a non-Dealer to do this work?

Thanks.

The price for the alignment seems a little high unless it's a lifetime one. You would want that done after the control arm and stabilizer link work so it makes sense for them to include it. The stabilizers are pretty easy to change if you have the tools and patience. I think I paid about $35-$40 each for mine. There is a fairly recent thread here about replacing CV axles and part of that process involves removing or at least loosening the stabilizer links. ImStricken06 has a video that covers that. I think I've also seen him mention that he did a control arm but I don't know if he has a write-up on that.

What are they including in the 105,000 service and tune up? What is the INJS? It can't hurt to ask an independent shop to give you a quote on that stuff, but they'll want to know the answers to my questions before they can give you an apples-to-apples quote. I don't think any of that is stuff that only a dealer can do, unless the 105,000 service includes anything with the CVT. If it does, it might be worth having the dealer do that work just to make sure the right fluid is used and there is no question about preserving the extended warranty.

INJS - Injection Service

105,000 Mile Service includes:

Inspect A/C system, cruise control, axles and boots, brake lines, drive belts, exhaust system and heatshield and lights;
Inspect steering gear and linkage, suspension components, tie rods and rod ends;
Check fluid levels of transmission, brake reservoir, engine coolant, power steering and washers;
Top off fluid as needed;
Replace: air cleaner filter, wiper blades, spark plugs;
Replace engine oil filter and engine oil;
Rotate tires, set tire pressures and inspect brake pads/shoes and rotors/drums

COST: $350.60 + $45 because of the CVT

So no, it would NOT include changing out the transmission fluid, which I have to do every 60K miles, otherwise I go into "Limp Mode". That runs $225.00

I think those prices are ridiculous, given what you have written and will absolutely go shopping. Somebody in Northeast Ohio will be cheaper than this.
Thanks!!

You have to put this into perspective - their prices are derived using book value for time (which is an industry standard) using Nissan parts (and what else would you expect them to use?). So for the parts that are standard items, like your control arm and stabilizer links, they are most certainly using book time with Nissan parts.

For services that do not use book time however, those are the services that I can see an issue with. This would include the injector service, "tune up", etc.

My thoughts:
- What is involved in the "90K services" and "tune up"? You seem to indicate that the "tune up" is the 105K service, but what's the 90K service then? $1000 in maintenance is quite high, and I would personally be getting a detailed list of what each includes to make sure they are not doubling up on things. You list out a "105K service" as the "tune up", but I am confused as to what would be included in the "90K services" then
- You can most certainly get the work done at another shop for the control arm, stabilizer links, and alignment. Many shops will offer a much lower labour rate than the dealership, and offer you the choice of using aftermarket parts. This will certainly result in a large savings. The question is whether you are comfortable with the independent shop and using non-Nissan parts. You pay a premium for the dealer to work on your car, and for a lot of people that is worth it.
- I think the Injector service is not worth it unless you are having issues or noticing mileage problems
- If you are not inspecting your vehicle, you should definitely be paying to have it inspected. Problems are much easier to fix BEFORE they are critical

Remember, your peace of mind is worth something. If that means using a dealer and paying more for their labour and Nissan parts, then so be it. But that's a choice you have to make.

UPDATE:

Another NISSAN Dealer, 35 miles away, gave a half-price estimate for the Control Arm, Stabilizer Links, Alignment and Injection Service.
They did the work last Monday: Out the door price: (w/Ohio taxes + shop fees) was $939.00

Trevok, I have Nissan do the inspections at every oil change: 3K-4K miles. I have tried those quickie oil change places, but I just feel more comfortable with the Dealer doing it.
