This is one of the best (read that "impartial") reports on Sarah Palin that I've found on the web. Instead of cutting and pasting, I'll leave the link.

http://english.aljazeera.net/n....html

He points out the good and the bad. Any comments?

He left out some specifics.

I'm impressed that a politician would finally give a government windfall back to the people, but the money is from the runup in oil prices and the royalties paid to the government from the runup, not anything she did to save the state money. She did the right thing by not spending it and giving it to the taxpayers.

She rejected the federal money for the "Bridge to Nowhere" only after it became a public relations and political nightmare when it became public that the money was attached as an earmark to a Katrina relief bill. She benefited from a lot of votes while she was for the bridge and running for governor. I have very little doubt that if the source of the funding hadn't blown up she would have quietly taken the money.

Standing up to the oil companies? Yes, she negotiated a deal to get the natural gas pipeline jump-started and going ahead of time. Even the former Democratic governor says he didn't think it would get done and credits her for that. To get it done, however, they gave $500 million in incentives to big companies and the costruction goes to a Canadian company, not an U.S.A. one.

Not particularly surprisingly, the Palin selection is going to bring out the nut jobs. Who will slander and libel and twist situations to push their own agenda as hard as they can.

Shrug.

Sorry, Bob.

That story is not impartial at all. The guy clearly left out a lot of the accomplishments ... and picked only what he wanted to, to bolster his comments.

I have been doing a bunch of reading and I am fairly impressed at the job that Palin has done in the past. She clearly believes in doing the right thing, whether it is politically expedient or not.

Yeah, she may not be as experienced as some other Governors, but (even in the short time in office) she has demonstrated clear competence and that makes her an executive ... not a politician. And that is what the position of Vice President needs - not a talking-head politician!

Am I saying she is perfect? No, but she sure is starting to look like a good choice, IMHO. And, I think, once the surprise settles, people who disagree, but spend the time to examine her record, will find themselves coming around to this selection.

If not, not. If yes, good. This is how McCain is going to run ...

I have been looking at the info too. Now, before spin goes into effect. Going back to the source stories from the era they happened not compilations put together recently. They will be certain to have a slant one way or the other from now on. I see some things that are not stellar but not "wrong" or "deceitful" or "unethical". Every "bad" thing I have read so far from the era reads more like a governor taking care of business and stepping on some toes. I am sure as sorros' gang digs they may find some damming thing like a speeding ticket, fishing without a license, wearing white after labor day, you know, "important" things.

Bring it DNC, I think this lady is the real deal and it pisses you guys off and has you sleepless and terrified. Kick and scream on the way down if you want, you are still going down.

I think good ole Joe Biden wouldn't last too long in a measure of his good and bad deeds against "the barracuda". I know Dems don't think the expectations they level at their opponents apply to them but the American people do. So please dig into her past, people will then wonder about yours which isn't something you want. Accuse her of being an inexperienced VP candidate and people will start to be reminded of how inexperienced your PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE is. So dig DNC, dig real deep and when you finally realize all you did was dig your own political grave Miss Palin will be standing up there to begin filling the hole up and start serving as our next Vice President.

The venom in the peice exposes the agenda of the writer. I checked the links, nothing that gives me pause. Try again

Just for clarification. Will the other guys be getting all of their information from whacko bloggers and arab media?

I got to the British for an impartial look at American politics because, lets face it, they think we are all idiots.

Here is "troopergate" oooooh, so sinister.

http://www.adn.com/politics/story/469135.html

I beleive the Governor DID exert pressure to get the trooper fired. If the guy was doing the things she alleges he was it was warranted and I would have pursued it were I in her place. Here's what they accuse he did.
excerpt from above article wrote:The Palins accused Wooten of drunken driving, illegal hunting and child abuse, among other charges. The Palins say that Wooten threatened to kill Sarah Palin's father and made vague threats to her that he would "bring me down."
Now, these are allegations, this is family squabble, a very dirty business for anyone. I suspect were any of our family troubles scrutinized we would look bad too. Now here is the impartial, the results of the internal investigation conducted in 2005; also from this article.
excerpt from above article wrote:Monegan said he told Todd Palin that he would look into Wooten. The then-commisioner, though, found that the allegations had already been investigated with an internal trooper investigation in 2005. All but two -- an illegal moose killing and a Tasering of an 11-year-old -- were found to be unsubstantiated. Wooten was disciplined.
So three years ago, before the light of the blogispere and the liberal media got involved an impartial internal review found this guy guilty of tasering and 11-year old kid. That is not a ringing endorsement and makes the Palins additional allegations pretty damned sticky.

The Palins have continued to go after this guy who is still locked in dispute with his ex wife.
excerpt from above article wrote:Todd Palin on Friday said he spoke to Holloway about Wooten after he saw Wooten on a snowmachine in April 2007. He gave Holloway a photo of Wooten on the machine, demonstrating what he thinks is a violation of his worker's compensation claim.
Now what did the officials in charge of this guy find?
excerpt from above article wrote:Monegan says the troopers looked into it and found that it probably occurred but was not something that warranted a dismissal.
So again a palin allegation gets some grip on this guy after an investigation is done. If this was a witchhunt wouldn't he come out of it clean? He hasn't. The guy is commiting fraud on a workmans comp claim and tasers kids. This is not the Governor making this up, his own supervisors and not the one she fired agree. So again, I ask you, is that it? That's all you got? seriously? Aren't you embarassed?

Right on. I'm not terribly impressed with Palin, but I love what her nomination has done to Obama and his supporters, and I am AMAZED that they continue to appear in the media to trash her for HER inexperience, and HER questionable associations. Obama's supporters are begging the comparison between Obama and Palin, one a Presidential candidate, the other a VP candidate. And the scrutiny of the Wooten issue, and the implied insinuations, put Obama's people in the position of defending Wooten - ugh.

Obama is running for President, not Biden. He's not running as a future stand-in for Biden. Palin is running for VP. This is gonna hurt Obama badly if his campaign team doesn't get a grip on it pronto.

Agreed.

I'd dismiss her as useless if she DIDN'T call for the firing of someone in the "good ol' boy" network for defending / protecting that state trooper.

FYI, my lovely next-door neighbors are Alaskan... Both involved in local politics in Anchorage for decades. As soon as they get back from their trip to Europe, I'll be asking them for their opinion on Gov. Palin.
