I just came back from getting my smog checked at a test only place and it failed. Everything is fine except the HC (PPM) on the ASM Emission Test Results. The HC (PPM) Results are as Follows:

HC (PPM)MAX AVE MEAS49 9 10233 7 36

The guy at the shop said that it was running to rich. That all he told me and he didn't want to tell me anything else and told me to take it to a smog mechanic and refered me to his buddy next door. Go Figure.

I've have done the following work on my car this month after the check engine light came on:Installed a new knock sensor and relocated it on top of the engine.Did a little cleaning on the air intake because it triggered the Throttle position code.Replace the O2 sensors before the converter. I used some cheap universal O2 sensors from Bosch. Could these cheap O2 sensors be the cause?

Anyone have any ideas why my car is running rich?

Post all the numbers from the emission reading.

High HC usually indicate a misfire. Check your plugs.

try cleaning the maf with CRC maf cleaner this product will not leave any residue. some other products leave a sticky residue that causes the maf to read incorrectly. make sure to use the expensive gas**** TOP TIER*** (shell, chevron etc.) do not use lower grades this will increase smog readings.. hope this helps-- ALSO U MUST USE 2 bottles of G2P--- VISIT THE FOLLLOWING LINKS FOR THE ITEMS U NEED--i have used both these items and passed..http://www.crcindustries.com/auto/ http://www.crcindustries.com/a...3&S=N

I saw some products similar to those at Kragen the other day. I'm going to check it out. When I go for a retest I'm goint to run my car pretty good for at least 1/2 hour and get it nice and hot before I take it in. Apparently this is were I screwed up because I woke up in the morning and drove my car about 5 blocks to the test center.

HC is your hydro carbon, that means you have to much fuel in the clyinders. it could be just as much as the pcv valve, a tune up, air filter or just the timing

you relocated the knock sensor to the top of the motor? Please educate me why you would do something like that???

Not related to your problem but its interesting none the less...

What kind of gas mileage do you get??? That would really help..

Does the car idle smooth? Shouldnt really be able to tell the motor is running besides the noise it makes (shouldnt be able to feel it)

I relocated the KS because it crapped out and I didn't have the $2800 to pay the dealer to change a $60 part I got on ebay. So I bought a subharness and the KS and put it somewere else. Someone on the forum posted a link, apparently some dealers were doing this (I could be and probably am wrong.)

Not sure what kind of gas mileage I get. It has become better since I poped in a new KS, two O2 sensors, some BG44k-quick clean-MOA additives, Mobil 1 oil filter and oil. It doesn't suck as much gas as it used to. I would say the motor is running smooth. I don't know how to calculate my gas mileage so if someone cares to educate me I would appreciate it.

Fill the gas tank all the way, set the tripmeter to 0, next fill-up divide the tripmeter (miles) by the amount of gas (gallons) to get ....uh.... miles per gallon. You'll start to get worthwhile numbers after about four cycles. 1-2 mpg variation between fill-ups is normal. If you get in the habit of doing it all the time, you can get an advanced warning of trouble starting.
