I had to take my car to a referee to pass smog... and I failed. All stock parts are put on... so I can only think of two things wrong at the moment. The o2 sensors and the timing. I know for a fact that the timing's WAY off, but would it affect the emissions that much? Here are my results:

I thought it was the cat, but people have told me otherwise. Any suggestions? Thanks.

HC means your car is rich. make sure it is warmed up properly before you test it, also use premium gas, that will help sometimes. NO means your EGR isnt functioning properly

Whoa back up the bus here. HC means gas is not burning, not that its rich. CO indicates a rich condition. When CO is high HC will natrually follow as it will have to much to burn. NOx means you have a high temp in the combustion chamber, Having timing to far advanced will cause this temp to go up. He didnt just fail you for your readings, He also failed you for timing and for your gas cap. When you buy a cap stick with factory . The after market ones dont last long.

A good point brought up is the car ebeing warmed up properly. Your 15mph reading on your CO in conjunction with the other readings at 15mph indicates the car might not have been fully warmed up. As a refferee station tech he should know he has to make sure its at full op temp. Reset your timing and have it rechecked.

Why are you going to a refferre to begin with? Did you Gross pollute prior or did you get a test only stamp on your registration?

Aftermarket headers. =( But yeah, next time I go I'll let them know about warming the car up. Is there anything else I can do besides the timing? Thanks.

At this point, no. The timing being off will create both high HC and NOx. So getting that right will help improve them.

What does the headers have to do with it? if they are carb approved you should be ok.

They weren't carb legal. Oops. But yeah, thanks for the help. I'll change the timing then get it smogged. Thanks again.

There are carb approved headers available for the 240. I am not sure of the brand off the top of my head though.
