I found a good older thread for smog failure on here but it didn't quite address my issues.

I know I have a passenger side exhaust manifold leak, or an exhaust leak in that area. Its on my list of things to do but would that negatively have an impact on the smog test?

I have new ngk platinum single tip plugs ready to go in and I need some new O2 sensors I'm guessing as well. The air filter is new, the fuel filter is new, the engine oil needs replacement. I have 2 new PCV valves ready to go in. So aside from what I just mentioned, my guess is that it could be the engine timing or the cat. Now I don't think its the cat because the NO levels and 02 levels are so low but could it be? Is there an easy way to check the health of the cat?

I posted pictures because I don't know where the PCV valves are. I found another thread asking the same question but the pictures left room for doubt. So is the picture with the red arrow pointing at the nut looking thing the passenger side PCV valve? Also, where is the driver side PCV valve as I can't find it at all. Maybe someone could indicate where I might look on the picture I provided?

The other red arrow is pointing at a rotten hose line that needs to be replaced. Is this a vacuum hose? Does anyone know the size of the j30 vacuum hose and where I could find more of it, maybe in Red so I know what has been fixed and what hasn't. Infinitipartsusa didn't have any for the J30 specifically.

Thanks for your guys help!

i believe the vacuum hose is 5/32, but best to remove and take it with you to get correct size...
yes, the red arrow points to the pcv valve..and the driver side is in the same position but on the drivers side...
pita to get to the drivers side..you need two knuckle joints to get in there with a socket

only way to check the Cat is to go to a gold smog station and have them do a smog analysis...

Thanks so much. I'm about to order some Denso OE oxygen sensors, found them for 46 each.

if the O2 sensors are failing, you would get a CEL light

is there a good website for only oem parts. I found this one http://www.infinitipartsusa.com/default.asp but its difficult to navigate. I'll take her in tomorrow to a gold station before I buy a bunch of stuff.

Your exhaust leak is causing the ecu to dump in extra fuel which is not being burned.

Man....not what I wanted to hear. The DMV won't give me my title and will fine me or make me pay for an extension till its fixed. Argh.

I forgot, which hose/line in the pictures I posted is the one(s) that goes to the EGR and that should be cleaned out? I tried figuring it out from another thread and couldn't get it.

to tell you the truth, it looks like your cats are shot...go to the gold smog station, worth it for you to pay the bucks for an evaluation...its not cheap!
remember, its a dual cat system under there....

follow the metal tubes going from the egr at the back of the engine around to mid engine under the plenum....if they were blocked you would get a CEL referring to EGR system....

Wouldn't they clog up somewhat before throwing a CEL? Also, same thing with the o2 sensors, don't they lose performance with time before they throw a CEL? Whats the change interval on it? I've got 178,000 on the odo.
