I had a test pipe on the first time....Results came back as gross pollutor.

Went ahead and got a catalytic convertor to fit the catback.

It passed the 15mph test, but didnt at the 25mph. Guy said that the car was releasing too much NOx levels in that range.

Any possible solutions i can look into before spending some mad $$ on EGR valve crap.

thnx

I don't have an egr (I have it blocked off) on my car and a bad cat and I passsed. We have a pretty strict smog test in houston. Replace you pcv valve, plugs, fuel filter, and air filter. all pretty cheap things to do.

First check your ecm, it is located in the passanger side kick panel . Unbolt the ecm and locate the small screw on the side of it, with the ignition in the on position car not started turn screw all the way one direction then turn it all the way other direction. Light will begin to flash the code that is in the ecm. 55 means ok. For example you count the flashes, it will show first 5 flashes then pause then 5 more to indicate the next numbers. I can tell you the codes and what they mean if you have any.105 is the egr solnoid I had this code in for a while and still passed I just fooled the ecu that it was really there I used a relay in place of the egr solnoid but I think if your check engine lite was on the techncian would have failed you for that. High N O X usually indicates that egr or cat is not functioning proporly heat up the cat really good before you get to smog staition by driving around car about 30mins prior to test. See if your egr is functional put your finger underneath egr rev engine to 2000 rpm and see if you can feel the egr lift, if it does egr is functioning.

man sea foam that mug. It will clean all that crap up. if it's SOHC It doesn't give a seperate code for the egr solnoid .

Also check your knock sensor if bad they will cause your timing to change I used a 1 meg ohm resistor just for testing.

It's so easy to pass smog tests man...just run the car almost out of gas, add two gallons of denatured alcohol from Home Depot or Ace Hardware, take the test and pick up the pass certificate.

I have NEVER seen this not work.

Yep, it's basically like running Ethanol/E85. Which is a 85% mix of alky in gas. Alcohol doesn't burn off hydrocarbons like gas does. I've done this for ...well since I was 16, which was 16 years ago. The only issue may be hard starting if you have to turn off the car for a while before taking the test. But it will start, just turns over 5-6 times first. Alcohol is harder to ignite on start up.

if you do this, keep the car running for awhile and burn up al that alcohol, that ****s bad for your fuel lines and can corrode it over time... one reason why u can't run E85 in every car..... cars setup for that have different fuel lines

it won't ruin it overnight, but you get the idea... the sooner you burn it all out the better

There's a guy that just put E85 right into his car, 88 Mustang GT, been running for over a year.

All you have to do is fill up with regular gas after the test...done. THIS IS NOT BAD FOR THE CAR. If you were running methanol then maybe. But the pump gas in the tank is more then enough to keep the lines and pump lubed etc.

First I filled the tank with 91 chevron and lucas fuel injector cleaners.

Once tank was empty We used the b-12 chemtool to run through the brake booster.

Henry (mys14rocks) plugged the EGR valve with some sponge to block it off.

Let it ran for like 45 minutes, then did the testing and it passed.
