So what is your remedy for the emission problem reinstall the AIV?

what did you fail in and at idle or running speed?

Before putting back your aiv, check the reeds with a slip of paper. If the slip of paper slides between the reeds and the part it's screwed into, it's not going to function. The function of the aiv is to suck in air when the throttle is not engaged. Removal/disabling could result in higher NOx emissions. I speak from experience. Other possible culprit is your catalytic converter and or your o2 sensor.

Hey guys, I'm new to the board, but I just got my 93 240 hatch emissions checked and I failed rather shockingly

My state registration is due this month as well as a new emissions test for Virginia, so I took it to the shop this morning, and it was smoking like a ******, something I've never seen it do, so I have 14 days to fix and get a new test, or something to that effect, what should I do? the guy who tested my car said it could be my valve seals, cat converter, or a number of other things, any one have any idea? it was smoking blue as well......damn oil burn off.

for 15 mph: HC ppm: PASS Limit: 111 Meas: 59 CO%: FAIL Limit: 0.62 Meas: 0.83 NO ppm: PASS Limit: 871 Meas: 822

for 25 mph: HC ppm: PASS Limit: 108 Meas: 95 CO%: FAIL Limit: 0.60 Meas: 1.01 NO ppm: FAIL Limit: 788 Meas: 883Eric

Your NOx is EGR related. Might need to have a look at the vac hoses that sit on top of the egr to the bpt. If it's got a hole or very soft, that'll need to be replaced. The CO and HC is probably your cat and or your ignition. you're running a bit rich and your egr isn't opening from my experience. I've still got a bunch of carbon deposits in my egr which I need to clean out. Once that's done my NOx should be clean, I've got virtually no HC and CO which suggests I'm a bit lean but I've got NOx in the 1200's. The exhaust doesn't help much either since the EGR doesn't have enough pressure to operate.

for 15 mph:HC ppm: PASSLimit: 111Meas: 59CO%: FAILLimit: 0.62Meas: 0.83NO ppm: PASSLimit: 871Meas: 822

for 25 mph:HC ppm: PASSLimit: 108Meas: 95CO%: FAILLimit: 0.60Meas: 1.01NO ppm: FAILLimit: 788Meas: 883EricLooks to me like the gases that are passing are very close to cutoff. If you can, get a pre/post cat test done. Just to eliminate it as a "fail" candidate. pre minus post divided by pre times 100 gives you % of efficiency. you want atleast 70% efficiency.

If thats ok, check o2 operation, oil change, check pcv, cap rotor wires plugs etc...

Backpressure egr, check the little rubber hose that goes from egr transducer to the egr valve. breaks often. check ign timing to far advanced will increase NOx, carbon buildup in the engine, dirty injectors(lean mixture), Nox is caused by heat of combustion more heat=more NOxbefore anything find the cause for the blue smoke, cause it won't even get on the dyno then your s.o.l.food for thought....DAN510:ylsuper
