I am curious has onyone had any luck getting factory glass on their car through the insurance company? My windsheild is relitivly new (6 months) and it already has pits galore and a big crack down the driver side. I know thats a unxafe thing and insurance should cover it how do i make them use the expensive glass instead of this cheap crap? Im pretty sure my glass detuctable is 150 ill check today. If anyone has had any luck please share

I've had two replaced and always got factory parts. I basically told them that the broken one was OEM glass, so the replacement would be too. They didn't challenge me on it too much. Got all new moulding last time too.

I'd call your insurance company and ask for a referral to a glass shop. Then tell them you want OEM glass - they'll write up the quote and probably be able to get it pushed through for you. Using the insurance company's preferred shop makes them much less likely to question the quote.

Unless you are contractually obligated to do so, you should not be required to use aftermarket glass. Check your policy.

I had new front and rear glass installed last year. When I insisted on OEM glass, it is my recollection the Safelite people told me the aftermarket manufacturers did not make glass for my 91Q. The glass people ordered the glass from Infiniti (took an extra day or so). The rear was a laminate, not simply tempered safety. I do not recall if the front was laminate, but I suspect so.

All my glass is marked NISSAN on it.

Make sure new gaskets are ordered, as well. If not, it might not seal up properly and/or you will have to wait an extra day for the parts to come in once the installers ralize they cannot use the old material.

Easiest way to handle this...take your car to the dealer for the glass...have them work it out with the insurance company.

AZ's right - Dealer Only. No problems with getting the real thing for my q. If your ins.co. balks, LEAVE THEM.

I wonder if my windshield is geniune Nissan, I doubt it though. I don't see any NISSAN logos on it that would indicate that it's a Nissan unit. It has tons of pits and the driver side window has a bunch of scratches and makes an annoying screeching sound when I roll it up or down.. Also, my windshield has a tendency to fog up in cooler (not freezing, but sub 65degrees) and sometimes the fogging gets pretty bad. Right now I'm replacing the compressor and have no choice but to roll one of the windows down even if it's raining outside:mad:

Is there some kind of chemical I could apply to the glass to keep it from fogging?

No-fog (?) made by Rain-X. Right next to the yellow Rain-X bottle in the store.

I know this may sound dumb but keeping your winshield clean will help alot. Had a 93 escort with no ac and even the slightest coating will allow the winshield to fog up really quick. When clean it takes alot more.

The anti fog coatings work but I found that they leave a film. I really cannot stand a cloudy windshield

Just my 2 cents

Juice is absolutely right. Stay away from Armor All and other "dash treatments", and use the glass cleaner that's clear (I think it's alcohol-based). I like the "Invisible Glass" (?) brand in the aerosol can - FAR outperforms Windex, which is CRAP for car windows.

Another benefit - The clear stuff is SAFE for window tint, and has a nice clean smell.
