I have a 2004 G35x with the factory wheel locks - somewhere between my new tires and now the wheel lock key has mysteriously disappeared. I'd love to blame the dealer, but I've checked twice with them and even dropped by and I do think they gave me the key - so that means I misplaced it...
What are my options? Is there a code somewhere that tells me what key to order? Is there a place other than the dealer I can go to and order one..
I know this is / was a bone headed move - so thanks in advance for telling me I am a dumb a** for loosing it.
Thanks - Jeff
I find you can usually just break the tops off with a chisel. They'll usually spin right off after that. If you don't worry about replacing a stud or two then you can take a chance on just splitting it. Whatever method consider wearing a pair of safety glasses and gloves as these things have done bad things when they give up.TISon28s wrote:A good way to remove them is to take a 3/4 socket and hammer it on. Take a breaker bar and connect it to the socket, and loosen it up. Then hammer the bad wheel lock out and do it all over again.
I never had to replace the studs either, but there is a certain danger in using the chisel when it comes to the studs. Any method of course has a certain amound of risks when it comes to the rims. Using a pneumatic with chisel tip works well and is more controllable than hammer and chisel.TISon28s wrote:True, you can use a chisel as well. But I've never had any problems with having to replace the studs though.
While I believe that extra 2 minutes can make a big difference as far as detection you are correct, if they want them the wheel locks will not stop them if they are left alone.marlin29311 wrote:I wouldn't even bother replacing - I would use just a normal lug. Anyone that really wants your wheels needs 2 min and they can get the locks off with a variety of different tools.
