When i purchased my car from a local nissan dealership. The salesman said that i should go to the dealership for regular maintaince like oil change, tire rotation, other fuilds and even brakes. I usually do all this on my own when time comes. But he said that if do it on my own there is no proof that you actually did anything to your car when you are suppose to. So if something goes wrong they can void your warranty. Is this true?

My sister and I got that speech as well for our Coupes. I told my sales that I DIY.

Back with my '02 Acura RSX, I wasn't questioned about any warranty worked I got done. I told them I DIY and even got hooked up with Parts (10% off).

I guess some dealers like to scare their customers.

To be safe, just save your Parts receipts I guess.

I take mine to a local mechanic that I know and he checks everything when he does my oil changes. Provides me with a receipt that I keep for warranty purposes.

That's what the sales guy meant by proof of maintenance. Since Nissan has had oil burning issues, a lot of customers only come in for warranty work, and some have had a hard time getting a 3.5 warrantied because they have no proof of changing the oil. You have to remember a new engine is expensive and Nissan doesn't want to just "give" it away.

I think someone on the forum posted something regarding buying the Nissan brand oil filters so that way if there is any problems, they have branded filters that the dealer uses and not some brand that would "indicate" that they are getting service else where or DIY. Sound like a good idea if you want to use synth oil which I want to do.

If I do the "regular maintenance" i get LIFETIME power train...yeah ya know what, I'll save the money if it goes after 75K its paid for anyway.....basically its subject to change....so by 2012 I'll be paying 50 bucks a pop just for an oil change, guess what, I'll do it myself or take it t wally-mart for 19...plus you really think I'm paying about 175 at 15K and 300 @ 30K (That was about what it was for my Z) imagine what my Truck cost with the differentials, 4WD, etc, hell no, give ya a hint 30K service almost 500 bucks, F THAT!

Their prices are outrageous but you haven't been to Mercedes service yet...
