factory stereo info help - 2008 Xterra

My fiance has a 2008 Xterra Sport Off-road edition. It came with the factory stereo single-CD player. When she bought it, she opted to not go for the upgrade with the iPod connection. Of course she wants that now. I called the dealership, they said unless she had the 6 CD stereo, their connection cable won't work. My question before I pull apart the dash is has anyone looked and do they know what kind of connection might exist on the back of the stereo?
