I keep reading replies that say read the FSM. Is this something that the original owner of a new Q45 would have gotten with his purchase, or are you talking about the bootleg manual you can download from some links that are sometimes posted here. I think it is rare for a FSM to come with a car, maybe you are talking about the owners manual? For my G20 and J30 the Infiniti dealer wanted over $200 for a paper copy, and it would have to be special ordered. Even for my GMC van I had to pay over $50 for a set of factory service manuals 20 years ago.

Ask and receive, my friend:

New Q45's came with a small version of the FSM from 1990 to (I believe) 1996.

I have an original one from a 90-93 Q45, that I keep meaning to put on ebay...

Anyway, there's your link for any FSM you might need.

Since there were only 100 Infiniti dealers in US at the time, it was assummed that a Q45 owner would have this available to help any non certified technican during any failure away from towing range to a dealer.

Even Nissan dealers were at a loss because the V8 and some systems were unique but an expert on the 300zxTT could function with the FSM.

The non certified technican could be paid to read the FSM for half a day and then with phone calls to dealership get the Q45 functioning to limp back home with an ample supply of new parts FEDEXed to the boondocks.

There were also half a dozen 1/2" thick technical info and update booklets for dealers only- compilations of TSBs.

Yes the oem full sized FSM cost $200 back in 1990, I had the dealership throw one in the trunk along with spare set of floor mats before I signed my check.

EDITED: 7-28-08I bought a Factory Service Manual online for $35 for my 1991 Q45. It is 2 inches thik, and 5 x 7 inches in size;

they had ANOTHER manual that was VERY expensive (I don't remember exactly $100 or $200?) but I think it included Body repair too. The seller called this a 'mini' manual.

The one I bought has very small print, very thin pages (and lots of them)and I mean it is loaded with techno speak, I don't think it is very user friendly... but it covered EVERYTHING, engine, trans rebuild etc.

If I come across where, I'll post it, but a search on google should find it.

I'll try to find the online order and receiptmaybe you can do a "reverse address" search to get the name of the company

The FSM is just intro to the Q45, a childs book written for the dealer technicans and owners.

There are 4 certification books and the lecture series for the various schools plus the Pre Launch Theory of technical operations of all systems.

Page after page, even a whole 2 pages devoted to theory of the twisted angled upper link and extreme camber gain curve on front.

Many of the design engineers published SAE papers on the various patents and systems in the 1988-1992 time period. Everyone has read the VH45 SAE paper?

http://www.sae.org/news/releases/05horn ... ers/890540

Use the SAE search engine to find the other 500 papers written by Nissan engineers in the 1988-1994 time frame

Dennis that is some very interesting info on R&D engineering.

Thank You.

I was especially intrigued by the trans related paper that mentions a PTO. Now that would open up some sideline opportunities.

I'm thinking wood chipper first off, then cement mixer.

Care to donate one to be scanned? Will be returned, but maybe unbound to be scanned.

Thanks.. this is great info. I have a 1997 Q45 -- looking for a manual that outlines electrical systems. The SLIP ABS TC light is lit and the Airbag light just started Flashing RED (ocurred two weeks apart in that order). No accident or damange.

Since 1994 Nissan has scanned FSM and made them available to the world as a *.pdf file. Download and read the multi thousand pages as appropriate.

I point to other sites to save NICO download data charges.

The TSB are available to download for a one day fee at

http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/infiniti/

If you read them, you will find one for an alternator recall for 1997. You will also need a new battery.

The flashing air bag light is covered in the SES section fo the FSM.
