Hi,

I saw this factory navi system for the altima (assuming it will fit in the coupe) on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/Nissan-Alt...wItemwill it fit in a coupe without navi but has the bose system withou having to purchase a wiring harness? I'm asking this because it's quite possible the harness and plugs may already exist in behind the existing non navigation stereo and it could be as easy as just plugging it in. I'm not interested in the D3 by the way as I would like to keep the buttons on the steering wheel fully functioning.

Thanks

It should be fine.. I would see no reason why it wouldn't work. you would have to add the antenna for the GPS. It's a decent system, but I don't see that it comes with the CD changer, so from what I can tell, it wont actually play music, you can load the DVD nav disc behind it, but you can't actually play music which comes from the cd changer down below it (not included from what I can tell).

Someone more knowledgeable might be able to chime in soon, someone who replaced theirs possibly.

Good luck,Mario

I don't see why it wouldn't work, you just have to go through the hassle of getting the changer unit that is on the bottom now.

well, not exactly... it may look fine, but there are a couple red flags here...

1. the ebayer has a feedback rating of "1" I wouldn't buy a pack of bubblegum from someone like that. Usually, folks that jump on ebay to sell 1 expensive item are shady. They get your money, and then ghost all their accounts assoc. w/ ebay. It could take forever to track them down!

2. as desantim stated, this will not play cd's.. it doesn't even have the stereo jack to plug in an ipod/mp3 player...both of those are on the second piece below the deck that contains the cd changer. If you are not getting the cd changer with it, then you'll have to buy one (which also costs 500 direct from the nissan factory all wholesale costs).

3.As mentioned, you will need to get someone to install the GPS antenna, which does NOT mount like a normal antenna, and will require someone with a lot of knowledge to do properly.

If you want to actually listen to music in your car, you will need to purchase the storage box that goes with the factory nav system (I just did this for my project and it's only 40.00 shipped from the factory). However, the opening is meant specifically for the nissan cd changer, trying to get any other unit (as I am) will require significant fabrication and modification of the storage box to even fit a cd / dvd player into that space.

And let's not even get into the wiring, I have no idea how different the internal wiring is in your car, and as we've seen from the fog lamp situation, it may depend on the type of car (A/C vs A/S) and package you have, which further complicates things.

IMHO, this will range from moderately difficult to extremely difficult and pricey to do correctly. And being that you are asking these questions, my guess is you won't be doing the installs yourself, thus making it even more pricey. There is a reason that most of us opted to NOT get the technology package, and put in an aftermarket Nav system... it cheaper and easier than they way you are going about doing it... and all of this just to keep the bluetooth control from the steering wheel (which is the only thing you lose with the aftermarket units)!

Yeah I thought for a brief moment about getting the tech package, but I think its overpriced and it lacks key features that I like.

The D3 runs for about 700 shipped, plays dvd's, has a better navigation system with more features, options, views, and points of interest, and looks very factory (to deter thieves) when installed correctly. In addition, the AV inputs and ipod interface allow for direct control and viewing of ipod/ zune videos, a feature not available on the factory nav setup. After my navgation system, xm radio, bluetooth adapter, and rear view camera, I still ended up paying only 1200.00, almost half the price of the tech package... I'm even throwing in an extra dvd player so that I can watch dvd's (if I choose) while the navigation is operating. To each his own, but to me, the thought of getting wayyy more for much less was a no brainer!
