I am looking to upgrade my stereo and though I would like to include a small scale Sub, I don't want people to see it. Mostly, I just don't want it to be a box sitting behind the back seat.

Anyway, I was looking through the service manual and found this detailing the location of the factory sub. The only problem is that I can't seem to visualize it. All I know is that getting to this location involves removing the back seat. I started doing that earlier this eve but then realized that I wouldn't have enough daylight to pull it all out and put all back together.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

I have an adobe PDF document that shows how to disassemble the rear of the car and get to the sub. It even has a pic of the factory sub installed. I don't know if there is a way for me to post a file on this site for download, so email me at [email protected] and I'll email it back to you. It should help alot!

Also, check out this thread: zerothread/285200 This is the box that I made for my car to hide in the hatch area and still allow me alot of cargo space. Also, I know that Clipsed was making a fiberglass box that was alot smaller and lower profile than mine (that didn't hold the amp or capacitor). If you do a search for a keyword (fiberglass or sub or something like that) for posts created by him you should find it.

Great White Versa,

I notice that you have the S model of the versa. The built in subwolfer only comes is the SL model with the audio package.

This is true. I don't have it but would like to create something similarly low-key and non-intrusive.

You want to know where the sub is located in the SL with the audio package? I have it so I'll do my best to explain it's location.

In the back of your hatch with you facing it, look to the left side where the cargo area goes around the wheel. That little cutout area is where it is. Rather than the normal side panel that you see in your car, there is another panel that basically makes the cargo area go straight to the bumper without that little cutout area.

Wish I knew a better way to describe it...but I'm no car nut and have no other words to say it. Hope it helped though....

I would guess you may be able to buy that panel and replace the current one if you wanted to. But as for price I have no idea...

Thanks for the info. The service manual image makes more sense now... I thought that it was up against the seat and was trying to match it up.

Yeah I thought the sub was in the hatch door in the pics I saw so when I ordered my new V I wanted the sub. I found out when I signed the papers and stuff where it really was. I still would have bought it anyway but before I could put 2 sets of golf clubs back there with other luggage....now that is an impossability with that area being occupied by the sub

You can see the ring of it in the bottom left corner.

So what powers the factory sub please tell me it's not the head unit?

Good question, I honestly have no idea...I just assumed it had a small amp back there...but I really didn't check or anything.

It puts out nice bass though. My car doesn't hop down the street or anything but it DOES sound good.

Yeah my friend Gino is selling me some mint condition MPX 1200 Watt subs for $130. I am just going to the goodyear autoparts place by me to get them installed. I live in Akron, so goodyear is everywhere!!!

There is a very small factory amp located right on the top of the subwoofer enclosure. You can't see it unless you remove the plastics and expose the enclousre itself. Like I said before, I have a set of detailed instructions for disassembly of the cargo area to expose the sub, and it has pics of the enclousre and amp, but I can't post it because it's a PDF document. Just email me if anyone needs a copy of it. [email protected]

I know this is off topic, but... how is your tire facing left while your steering wheel is facing right? I just happened to notice that.. LoL!

It's probably turned 1 3/4 times to look like it's pointing right when it's actually as far left as it goes. I would bet this is the case since the front wheels seem to be turned as far as they'll go.

Think it was just a 3/4 turn to the left. They are not as far as they would go I don't believe.
