Takeshi is right, the 2009 Rogue has a 10-year warranty on the CVT transmission, but this does not cover the rest of the powertrain including the engine.
It is very hard to comment on specifics of an extended warranty because there is so much variation in the details, such as what level of coverage you pick and timeline, and the rates will vary greatly from one dealer to the next.
I've never bothered with extended warranties because I find the prices to be very high, in the range of $1500 to $3000 generally. In my experience with vehicles you either have problems early on within the initial 5-year factory warranty period due to defects, in which case the manufacturer covers you for most major items, or you have problems much further down the line after 10 years, in which case most extended warranties are expired. Most extended warranties cover the 5 to 10 year age of a vehicle and I find these to be the most stable and trouble-free time beyond regular maintenance, in particular with modern vehicles which are much better quality than vehicles manufactured 10 or more years ago.
That's not to say I don't think it's possible for an extended warranty to be a benefit, there is a chance, I personally feel that the chances are low, but it's 100% certain I'd have to pay up front the high price for the warranty which has a good chance of being wasted. I'd rather take that $2-3000 and invest it, make some profit, and on the off-chance my vehicle does have problems years from now I feel confident I can repair most major items for much less than the cost of the extendede warranty. With access to the internet I believe I can source quality used parts if need be, even a complete used engine is readily available with a quick online search for around $1000 in the worst case scenario I have engine trouble.
That's just my line of thinking, but to each his own and for some the peace of mind of the extended warranty is worth the investment.
